KU organises consultative workshop on drug de-addiction skills

Srinagar | : Kashmir University’s Department of Social Work (DoSW) organised a day-long consultative workshop on drug de-addiction skills. The workshop, organised under RUSA 2.0 programme, was attended by experts and students from University of Kashmir and Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (IMHANS).
Renowned experts spoke at length on various aspects of drug de-addiction and how imbibing a set of skills can lead to better results and outcomes at grassroots.
A certificate distribution function was also organised alongside for the first batch of students who recently completed their six-month certificate course in ‘Counselling Skills for Drug De-addiction’. The course was started by the DoSW under RUSA and was coordinated by Dr Aadil Bashir, Senior Assistant Professor.
Prof Raies A Qadri, Dean Students Welfare, was chief guest at the certificate distribution ceremony and emphasised the importance of trained human resource in dealing with issues and concerns related to drug abuse. Prof Qadri also highlighted the role of institutions like universities, colleges and other civil society organisations in preventing abuse of drugs especially among the young generation.
Earlier, Prof Mohammad Maqbool, Head, Psychiatry Department IMHANS, gave a detailed lecture on the substance disorders and services available in Kashmir Valley for the related issues.
Dr Shazia Manzoor, Head, DoSW welcomed the guests and participants and, along with Dr Aadil appreciated the support of the University administration to the DoSW.
The students who completed the course also elucidated their enriching experience.
Dr Mantasha Binte Rashid, Secretary, Srinagar Development Authority, Prof Yasir Hassan from IMHANS and Mir Zubair from KU also addressed the participants and deliberated on various aspects and dimensions of substance disorders in Jammu and Kashmir. Dr Sarfarz Ahmad conducted proceedings of the event.
