National Conference on “Significance of Mathematics as an Interdisciplinary Subject”, National Mathematics Day 2021 held at SKUAST Srinagar

Srinagar | Dec, 23 : One Day  Multidisciplinary National Conference on “Significance of Mathematics as an Interdisciplinary Subject” was held on 22nd December held to commemorate 134th  Birth  Anniversary of great mathematician Srinavasa Ramanujun.at Faculty of Fisheries, Rangil Ganderbal, SKUAST-K.  

An official statement issued on Thursday said that to popularize the use of Mathematics in everyday life, research and sensitize the public as to how Mathematics helps in shaping and framing policies, one day multidisciplinary national conference was organised at SKUAST -K Srinagar.  It was a joint program organised by Dr. Bilal  Ahmad Bhat, Head, Division of Social Sciences, FoFy, SKUAST-K,  Prof.  M.S.Pukhta, Head, Division of Agri. Statistics, FoH, Shalimar, SKUAST-K,  Prof. T.A.Chisti, Director, Directorate of Distance Education, University of Kashmir, Srinagar, J&K and Prof.  

Manish Kumar Sharma, Head, Division of Statistics & Computer Sci., SKUAST-Jammu,  J&K.  In the conference more than 60 researchers participated in the conference across the country and 20 scholars presented their papers via oral/poster form. The researchers shared their findings in the form of paper and poster presentations in various technical sessions organized. Professor Sarfaraz A. Wani, Director research  SKUAST-K formally inaugurated the conference.  

The organizer, Dr. Bilal Ahmad Bhat (Head, Division of Social Sciences, FoFy)  introduced the audience about the conference programme and delivered the welcome address. Prof D.S Hooda, Former Hon’ble PVC, was the guest of honor and Hon’ble Director Education Prof. M.N.Khan, SKUAST-K was Chief Guest for the day. Professor D.S.Hooda in his address discussed in detail about the life of great Mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan. Director Education Prof. M.N.Khan, SKUAST-K in his key note discussed role of Mathematics in research and significance of National Mathematics Day. Dr. Manish Kumar, Head, Division of Statistics & Computer Science, SKUAST-J, Jammu presented vote of thanks on this occasion. Professor Manish Kumar thanked Hon’ble V.C. SKUAST-K Professor Nazir A. Ganai, Director Research Prof. Sarfaraz A.Wani,   Dean, Faculty of Fisheries, Directors of SKUAST-K, organizers of this conference, guests,  scientists/scholars  from different institutions for their support. After the Inaugural session technical session-I and Technical Session-II were held immediately.

In technical Session-I, Prof. Rashmi Bhardwaj, FIMA (UK) delived talk on topic “An Infinity to fractal: Ramanujan Perspective”. She explained in bried the concept. The second lecture was delived by Prof. Aquil Ahmad, Head Department of Statistics and O.R., AMU. Aligarh on topic “Role of Mathematics & Statistics”  Professor Aquil discussed role of mathematical tools in different fields. He explained how mathematics is playing key role in decision making. Third speaker was  Mr. Hemant Kumar Lohia (IPS) who spoke about the role of mathematics in day to day life. He explained in brief the application of mathematics in daily life. The fourth speaker was Prof. Tariq Ahmad Chisti, Director, Directorate of Distance Education, and Dean school of leaning, University of Kashmir, Hazratbal Srinagar. He spoke about the Srinivasa Ramanujan and his contribution to Mathematics.  Professor M.S.Pukhta, chaired first session, whereas Prof Manish Kumar and Dr. F.A. Bhat acted as Co-chair.

The technical session-II was chaired by Prof. T.A.Chisti, Dr. Parmil Kumar and Dr. Bilal Ahmad acted as co-chair. At the end of the day, valedictory function was held  in which Dr. M.M.Kirmani delivered the welcome address which was followed by Summing up event by Dr. Bilal Ahmad Bhat, organizing Secretary of the conference.  Dr. Bilal Ahmad Bhat at the outset thanked Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor and Director Research SKUAST-K for their support. He thanked all Scientists/Scholars/Dean/Directors fellow organizers from various higher  educational institutions of country for their support.  

Dr. Bilal Ahmad, organizer-I thanked Professor Parmil Kumar,  Head, Dept of Statistics, University of Jammu, Jammu, J&K  for acting as Chairman of the panel of judges (Dr. Anupam Deka, Head Dept. of Statistics, Handique’s Girls’s College, Guwahati Assam, India; Dr. Vikas Doshi, Medical College, Baroda, Anand, Gujrat, India) for awarding best paper presenters.  More than 40 abstracts/papers we received for presentations and on the basis of the quality of paper and presentation, the judges chose the best papers. In oral presentation Dr. Manoj Kumar, Dept. of Math & Stat, CCSHAU, Hisar (Forecast the Dynamics of COVID-19 Epidemic in Haryana Using ARIMA Model) got first, Anisa Ismail, S.H.Inst. of Islamic Studies, University of Kashmir (A  Study on the impact of Religion and Spirituality on COVID-19 Pandemic, Co-authored, Intizar Ahmad and Bilal A.Bhat) got second and Asma Sultan, FOF, SKUAST-K (Influence of stratification and rooting hormones on germination and growth of Inula racemosa Hook. f.- An important medicinal plant of Kashmir Himalayas, India, Co-authored, P.A.Sofi and Bilal A. Bhat), Saima Farooq, FOF, SKUAST-K (A comparative study on various concentratins of IBA treatments on rooting of Lavandula officinalis stem cuttings co-authored, Sajad Ahmad Gangoo, Bilal Ahmad Bhat, Bilkees Ayoob, Amarjeet Singh and M.A.Islam) got third (tie).

In Poster presentation,  Dr. Sidrat-Ul-Muntaha Anees, Women’s College, M.A.Road, Srinagar (Attitude of School Going Students’ towards Mathematics in Kashmir, Co-authored, Bilal A. Bhat, S.N.Z.Geelani, Bilkees Nazir and Sayima Majeed), got first, Dr. Parmil Kumar, Dept. of Statistics, University of Jammu, J&K (Application Of Mathematical Models In Estimation of Production Performance Of  Fish Population In India, Co-authored, M.H.Balkhi, Bilal A. Bhat, M.S.Pukhta, T.R.Jan and Sobiya Gul), got second and Intizar Ahmad, S.H.Inst. of Islamic Studies, University of Kashmir (Contribution of Muslims to the development of Mathematics, Co-authored, T.A.Chisti, Bilal A.Bhat, Anisa Ismail and Uzma Majid) got third.

Prof Sarfaraz Ah Wani, Director Research, SKUAST-K  concluded the day long event with his insightful.The session was formally closed by Dr. Tasaduq H. Shah, Head, Division of FRM, FoFy, SKUAST-K  by presenting Vote of thanks.
