JKPCC organises nature walk to celebrate Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav in Jammu

Jammu | :Jammu & Kashmir Pollution Control Committee observed Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav at Environment Park Raika on the theme “Celebrating Rivers of India” by organizing Nature Walk for students of Eco-clubs.
Dr. Neelu Gera, Chairperson, JKPCC was the chief guest during the occasion, while the Nature Walk was held under the guidance and supervision of B.M. Sharma, Member Secretary, JKPCC.
Nature walk was inaugurated with the planting of a Peepal tree seedling by Regional Director, Sat Paul at Environment park in the presence of Dr. Yash Pal Sharma, Professor, Jammu University, Dr. Yashpaul Salgotra, Head Labs, JKPCC, Dr. Shashikant Lakhanpal, Nodal Officer, Eco-club Jammu region, Divisional Officers, JKPCC Jammu, Anuradha, Scientist, JKPCC Jammu, students and teachers of various schools.
During the walk, a detailed interaction was held with the students regarding rivers, nature, diversity of flora etc. Students were mesmerized by observing natural flora including medicinal plants preserved in their original form at Environment Park. They were apprised about the upcoming water recharge pond in the Environment Park and technology for rain water harvesting for nourishment of natural flora and fauna of the park.
Nature walk culminated with demonstration and installation of bins made from plastic waste in the environment park to promote recycling of plastic waste.
Earlier, Sat Paul, Regional Director, J&K PCC Jammu formally welcomed all the dignitaries and participants in the program. He thanked the Nodal officer, Eco club, Jammu, nodal officers from all the schools and participating students for being part of this nature walk.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Yashpal Sharma, Jammu University talked about traditional importance of various medicinal plants, importance of rivers, need to conserve water resources and importance of holding such nature walks to spread more awareness among the people regarding the need to save the environment.
Dr. Neelu Gera, Chairperson, Pollution Control Committee appreciated the efforts of Pollution Control Committee officials for organizing such type of events for students of Eco clubs. She also encouraged the students to adopt environment-friendly innovative products and develop a habit of source waste segregation. She also laid emphasis to reduce use of single use plastics and polythene to ensure that our rivers and ecosystems are not further degraded.
Students were given an open platform to express their views voluntarily and come up with innovative ideas for reduction of pollution. Certificates were distributed to all participants from eco-clubs of different educational institutions.
