Kulgam: Two militants of Lashker-e-Toiba outfit were killed in an encounter at Redwani area of Qaimoh hamlet in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district, police said on Thursday.
A senior police officer said that a joint team of Police, Army’s 1 RR and CRPF launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) on specific information about the presence of militants in the Redwani Bala on Wednesday evening.
He said that as the presence of militants got ascertained, efforts were made to evacuate the civilians in the area and repeatedly surrender offers where given to the hiding militants, which they rejected.
The official said that as the joint team of forces approached the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them, which retaliated, triggering an encounter.
In the ensuing gunfight, two militants namely Aamir Bashir Dar and Adil yousuf Shan were killed, he said.
A police spokesman in a statement issued on Thursday said that police and security forces killed two militants affiliated with LeT (TRF), in an encounter in Kulgam.
“Acting on a specific input regarding the presence of militants in village Redwani area of Kulgam, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by Police, 1st RR and 18Bn CRPF in the said area,” the spokesman said. “During the search operation, as the presence of militants got ascertained, they were given repeated opportunities to surrender; however they fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party which was retaliated leading to an encounter.”
He said that in the ensuing encounter, two militants of LeT (TRF) were killed and their bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter. “They have been identified as Amir Bashir Dar resident of Kujjar, Frisal and Adil Yousuf Shan, a resident of Sursano Hatipora, Kulgam,” the spokesman said.
He said that incriminating materials, arms and ammunition including two Pistols, two magazines, seven pistol rounds and one grenade were recovered from their possession. “All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation,” he added.
Police have registered case under relevant sections of law and investigation has been initiated. People are requested to cooperate with Police till the area at encounter site is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosive materials, if any, the spokesman said
