Pulwama : Participants from different educational institutions from the eight educational zones bagged different prizes in a 2-day sports event which concluded Wednesday.
The event was organized by Department of Youth Services and Sports Pulwama in collaboration with District administration Pulwama.
District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Pulwama Noor ul Haq said that the sports skills among the participants have been marvelous and need to be further polished and promoted by providing adequate modern infrastructure instrumental in organizing such events so that more and more talented youth is identified and encouraged to devote time towards sports and excel in life.
The event consisted of belt wrestling, wushu and thangata under weight of 40 to 70 boys, 35 to 60 girls, disciplines and participation of more than three hundred youth including unprecedented participation of both boys and girls. Many schools from the district also fielded their teams in the games which made the competition very tough. Winners were later awarded different prizes and other gifts.
“The expression of confidence and smiles on their faces and enthusiasm among these young participants while performing events or competing in games gave a satisfaction which could not be explained in words,” He said.
“Wholehearted participation of youth, especially girls, in sports events exemplifies the sentiment of youth for peace and prosperity in their lifestyle. The standard of competition and enthusiasm generated through these events set a benchmark for others to follow.”
“We need to advise our children to adopt a healthy lifestyle and stay away from the menace of social evils,”
“These types of tournaments need to take place as they would give experience to all the children.
He asked participants to take an active part in sports as it helps in personality development besides enhancing the decision-making capability of the individual.
