Amid rising intensity in the spread of new variant of covid-19 pandemic the “Cameron” economic slowdown is intensifying the public concerns over joblessness triggered by back to back two covid lockdowns in last two consecutive years one after the other as finally livelihood opportunities have taken a big hit in Jammu and Kashmir like people in most of the states and union territories of the country. In this scenario of increasing joblessness the J&K Government’s  increased  focus on skill development is generating hopes of livelihood opportunities among the youth in Jammu & Kashmir. With Government laying enhanced focus on admissions in polytechnics across Jammu & Kashmir, the engagement of youth with the skill development courses may further the prospects of livelihood opportunities for the jobless youth of Jammu & Kashmir in coming years but bearing the costs of the skill dev course in presence of increasing joblessness would be probably difficult for those youth whose parents have lost jobs as consequently their income has reduced to alarming proportions. Keeping in view the drastic fall in the livelihood opportunities and increasing inability of the people to bear the costs of any skilled or conventional type of education in Jammu & Kashmir, the only hope for the jobless youth could probably be a waiver in the fee for the skilled courses and facility of free of cost study material for the youth inclined to undergo skill development course in the government run polytechnics in both Kashmir valley and Jammu division.  Since skill development otherwise also could open new avenues of job opportunities for the jobless youth in Jammu & Kashmir, the increasing focus of the government on skill development could reduce the rising intensity of joblessness which is crucial to many socio-economic critical ailments of the jobless youth of Jammu & Kashmir.

One way or the other skill development if given a fillip under a planned roadmap could further the prospects of the development of the human resources and reduce the interest of youth in government jobs . So by all standards of understandabilities skill development is the only way to promote corporate culture for improving the prospects of livelihoods in Jammu & Kashmir.

As skill development is gateway to industrial entrepreneurship, economic development and industrial growth in Jammu & Kashmir as it has proved so in many states and union territories of the country, the increased focus of the government on skill development could be the beginning of a new era of growth, progress and development in Jammu & Kashmir.
