Shopian | : The Department of Social Welfare Shopian organized an awareness programme ( Drug Free Signatory Campaign ) at Mini Secretariat Arhama Shopian with an aim to make our country Drug Free, was kick-started by District Magistrate, Shopian, Sachin Kumar Vaishya Tuesday.
Speaking on the occasion, the District Magistrate expressed hope that this will help in generating awareness among the general public of the district.
DM said that a safe and healthy lifestyle is possible only by staying away from intoxicating substances including tobacco, alcohol and drugs.
The DM said that the people should cooperate with the Administration to eradicate the menace of drugs and social evils in the district. He stressed on the need to spread the message far and wide to save the new generation from getting perished into drugs.
The DM stressed on the need for moral education of the children and to ensure that children do not fall prey to any social evil.
DM urged the Officers/Officials present in Signatory Campaign to stay away from all kinds of addiction and focus on acquiring education, moral values and skills which can assist them in pursuing a successful career.
DM further appealed to all to come forward, cooperate with us and uproot this menace from the society for better future of new generations.
The DM stressed on the need to have a holistic approach towards a steep rise in the number of substance abuse cases especially in the youth of the district. He asked for creating massive awareness through Youth Clubs and various Mass Media extension activities targeting Schools, Colleges, besides emphasizing creation of community volunteers.
Officers of the Social Welfare Department and other Employees of Mini Secretariat also participated in the said programme.
