 'Such workshops boost theoretical and practical knowledge about trending technologies: Prof. Sehgal

Five-day ATAL-FDP on ‘5G and IoT’ concludes at NIT Srinagar

SRINAGAR : The five-day-long Faculty Development (FDP) course on 5G and Internet of Things (IoT) concluded on Monday at the Department of Information and Technology, National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar.

The FDP is a part of a massive country-wide rollout of training and learning opportunities sponsored by All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) through its Training and Learning (ATAL) Academy.

HOD Information Technology, Dr. Shabir Ahmad Sofi was the coordinator for the course. The resource persons for the courses were exceptionally experienced faculty members from reputed institutes of India.

Director NIT Srinagar Prof.  Rakesh Sehgal said the theme of FDP is interesting as a topic is more relevant in the present scenario. It is evident that 5G will spur innovation across many industries and provide a platform enabling emergent technologies such as the IoT to become an integral part of our economy, he said.

“Adoption of 5G and the IoT is being driven by a number of factors, including increased demand from consumers, enterprises, and availability of more affordable devices,” he said.

Prof Sehgal said now the technology is so advanced, we can think of anything and then we can even produce that or use it for any purpose. Such workshops boost theoretical and practical knowledge about current technologies, he said.

In his message, Registrar NIT, Prof. Kaiser Bukhari also appreciated the IT Department for conducting FDP on a relevant topic. He said these sessions are the need of the hour and will explore more in-depth knowledge to the participants.

Dr. Sofi said the resource persons for the course were exceptionally experienced faculty members from reputed institutes. FDP covered a wide range of topics on 5G and IoT. All sessions were highly useful for the faculty members and research scholars who participated in the course,” he said.

Dr. Sofi informed that more than 100 participants had registered for the workshop from all over India. He said the objective of the course was to enhance the theoretical as well as practical knowledge of 5G and IoT technologies.

On inaugural day, Dr. Sofi presented his topic on ‘Sensors and IoT’ while Dr. Mohammad Ahsan Chishti Dean and Associate Professor at Faculty of Engineering at Central University of Kashmir presented his topic on ‘IoT meets Big Data.

On the second day,  Er. Kalimullah Lone, research scholar delivered his lecture on IoT Big Data. It was followed by a lecture by Dr Muheet Ah. Butt Scientist D University of Kashmir on Databases in IoT and Dr. Hushmat Amin Kar from IT Deptt. Delivered his lecture on Fog- IoT Environment.

 

On the 3rd day, Dr. Sofi delivered his lecture on 5G and IoT’. It was followed by a presentation by Dr. Janibul Bashir Assistant Professor, IT Deptt, Er. Jehangir Ali delivered his lecture on ‘Real-time Applications of IoT and 5G’ and Dr. Iqra Altaf delivered her lecture on ‘Industrial IoT (IIoT) and 5G’.

On the 4th day, Dr. Saniya Zahoor from KU presented her topic on ‘Resource Optimization in IoT’ while Dr. Majid Zaman Scientist D from KU delivered his topic on ‘Data Analytics in IoT’.

On a concluding day, Mr. Sarvesh Kumar Singh AP, from Babu Banarasi Das University Lucknow delivered his lecture on Real-time Applications with Cloud (AWS) and it was followed by Dr. Prateek Aggarwal from LPU  on Smart City Applications.

Dr. Janibul Bashir, Dr. Iqra Altaf, Dr. Amritpal Singh, Dr. Prabal Verma, Dr. Shrabanti M., Dr. Hushmat Kar, and Mr. Jehangir Ali from the information technology department were the main organisers of the five daylong FDP event.
