No respite in intense freezing cold condition prevailing in Kashmir, Ladakh

Amid dry, hot and humid weather, hundreds of people including men, women and children mostly bare foot visited the revered suffi Saint Shrine Sheikh Noor-Ud-Wali popularly known as Nund Resh at Charar-e- Sharief in Budgam district on Sunday for prayers to seek rainfall to end the drought season in Kashmir valley. Srinagar: Temperature all across the Kashmir valley and Ladakh showed a slight improvement but there was no respite from the intense freezing cold conditions prevailing in the two Union Territories on Sunday.
Srinagar, which experienced the seasons coldest night a day ago with the temperature plummeting to minus 3.6 degree Celsius showed a slight improvement and recorded a temperature at minus 3.0 degree Celsius on Sunday. However, the freezing cold conditions continue to prevail making life miserable for the inhabitants.
The temperature in the ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir has also improved as the place recorded temperature at minus 4.2 degree Celsius on Sunday against the minus 5.5 degree Celsius the previous day.
Tourist resort of Pahalgam in south Kashmir also showed an improved temperature of 1 degree against the one recorded a day ago which was recorded as minus 5.4 degree Celsius against the minus 6.4 degree Celsius on Saturday.
Qazigund on Srinagar Jammu national highway recorded at minus 3.0 degree Celsius against the minus 3.7 degree Celsius recorded a day ago. Similarly at Kokernag it was recorded at minus 2.3 degree Celsius against minus 3.4 degree Celsius the previous day.
The temperature at frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara was recorded at minus 3.8 degree Celsius against the minus 4.3 degree Celsius on Saturday.
Drass the second coldest place in the world after Siberia recorded temperature at minus 17.8 degree Celsius against minus 18.0 degree Celsius, Leh at minus 12.3 degree Celsius against the minus 14.6 degree Celsius and Kargil at minus 9.1 degree Celsius against minus 10.6 degree Celsius the previous, the MET office said.
