Srinagar|  : National President for National Old Pension Restoration United Pront(NOPRUF) BP Singh Rawat alongwith top brass leaders of NOPRUF has today reached Srinagar after attending a conference on awareness of pension at University of Jammu a couple of days before.

“The main purpose of his visit to Jammu and Kashmir was to strengthen the organization and to spread mass awareness among all the government employees of Jammu and Kashmir about the merits of Old Pension Scheme (OPS) and demerits of New Pension Scheme (NPS) introduced in the centre from January 2004 and introduced in Jammu and Kashmir in January 2010, which is not at par with Old Pension Scheme (OPS) in terms of post-retirement benefits “, reads a press statement issued by NOPRUF.

Pertinent to mention that NOPRUF is a national level organization, headed by its National President BP Sing Rawat at national level and headed by J&K President Gulzabair Daing at J&K level, is running a countrywide campaign for restoration of Old Pension Scheme (OPS).

While in the meeting at Srinagar the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, National President deliberated on the right of pension to the employees and at the same time took suggestions from the stakeholders of NOPRUF-JK to build a proper future roadmap for carrying out various activities and programs under the banner of NOPRUF, in order to make the campaign for restoration of OPS more strong and result oriented in Jammu and Kashmir as well as in the whole country.

Later a press conference was held by NOPRUF at Press Club Srinagar. While talking to media persons National President BP Rawat and other NOPRUF leaders termed NPS full of demerits and flaws. They said that it is not beneficial for post retirement life of an employee, who can even not meet the expenses of medicines from the meager pension through NPS.

Leaders claimed that the future of employees and their families, is not secure under the privatised new pension scheme (NPS), which is subjected to high risk share market. They said that there are many pension cases under NPS Scheme in which it has been witnessed that retirees are getting just an amount of around rupees one thousand as monthly pension in present times while the prices of basic commodities are sky rocketing.

“The campaigning for restoration of Old Pension Scheme would continue and would remain sustainable until government scraps NPS and restores employee friendly Old Pension Scheme(OPS) for the due benifit of employees as well as for the benifit of nation” reads the press statement.

The government should accept the legitimate demand for restoration of OPS, otherwise NOPRUF would intensify it’s countrywide agitation to mount the pressure on government for the same, peacefully under the democratic way, added the leaders.

The leaders who spoke during the press conference in addition to National President BP Singh Rawat and J&K President Gulzabair Daing include Chairman Government Employees Forum J&K, Sheikh Firdous, President Jammu and Kashmir Lecturers Association Mansoor Ahmad Khan, Vice President Tehseena Maqbool, President KGBV teachers association Mymoona Khan,Former Chairman TJAC Gazi Abdul Aziz,Gh Mohudin District President SrinagerMohd Shall DP Teachers Forum Ghanderbal and others.
