4 drug peddlers arrested huge quantity of contraband substances recovered: Police

Amid dry, hot and humid weather, hundreds of people including men, women and children mostly bare foot visited the revered suffi Saint Shrine Sheikh Noor-Ud-Wali popularly known as Nund Resh at Charar-e- Sharief in Budgam district on Sunday for prayers to seek rainfall to end the drought season in Kashmir valley. Srinagar|: Police on Thursday said that it has arrested four drug peddlers in Pulwama and also recovered huge quantity of contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued on Thursday police said that a police party of PS Pulwama during patrolling at Tenghar area of Pulwama intercepted four suspicious persons who tried to escape from the spot after noticing police party, but were apprehended tactfull following which they were identified as Junaid Ahmad Ganaie son of Mushtaq Ahmad resident of Chatapora, Umer Feroz Bhat son of Feroz Ahmad Bhat resident of Pulwama near Wani Masjid, Aijaz Ahmad Thoker son of Ab Majeed resident of Old Bus Stand Pulwama & Qaisar Nazir Mir son of Nazir Ahmad Mir resident of Mughalpora Pulwama. Police in the above referred statement also said that during searches 49 bottles of codeine phosphate were recovered from the possession of the above named accused who were arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody.
Stating that in yet another similar action a police party of PS Litter while acting swiftly on an input conducted a raid in village Rakh Litter and during searches recovered 20Kgs of Bang-Patri from the residential house of Rayees Ahmad Thoker son of Ab Rashid Thoker resident of Rakh Litter, police in the above quoted statement further said that the accused is at large and efforts are on to effect his arrest ancd cases under relevant sections of law stands registered in respective police stations and investigation has been initiated.
In the concluding para of it’s statement police appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood but warned that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law, reassuring therein that consistent actions against drug peddlers are taken as part of efforts made to keep society free from the scourge of drug menace.
