Rising traffic diversion violations in uptown Srinagar

The traffic diversions from Jehangir Chowk to Ram Bagh in the peak morning and evening hours are triggering huge traffic mess in the civil lines areas of Srinagar city as the drivers of the light passenger vehicles tend to violate the norms of one way traffic for the purposes of carrying passengers to their destinations in short time in uptown Srinagar. Though the completion of Jahangir-Chowk fly over thrown open to public two years ago was expected to ease the intensity of traffic chaos in uptown Srinagar but the violations of one way traffic movement and increasing tendency of the drivers of passenger vehicles to violate traffic diversions for the purposes of making fast bucks are not ending the never ending traffic chaos in uptown Srinagar.  Use of flyover as per the traffic diversion plans would have surely eased the increasing traffic chaos in uptown Srinagar but the violations of traffic diversions are intensifying the intensity of the traffic chaos in city’s commercial hubs day after day, month after month and year after year. On one hand intensity of the traffic movement is rising year after year, month after month and day after day but on the other side there is no proper traffic regulation system in place to reduce the increasing intensity of traffic diversions in the peak morning and evening hours in uptown areas of Srinagar City and consequently traffic chaos does not head to any dead end in the summer capital of Jammu & Kashmir.  Worth mentioning is this fact also that  people  travelling to Srinagar from other districts of  Kashmir valley are also the victims of traffic chaos caused mostly by traffic diversion violations  from Jahangir Chowk to other parts of Srinagar city but the traffic police department continues to be a mute spectator to the continuing traffic chaos in city centre areas particularly commercial hubs only to leave hundreds of businessmen and traders of  commercial hubs of uptown Srinagar fuming .

Keeping in view the difficulties coming in the way of smooth business and trading activities and regularity of employees in government offices there is no short cut to strict implementation of traffic diversion across Srinagar city. Strict implementation of traffic diversions as such alone would by all probabilities reduce the increasing intensity of traffic chaos in Srinagar city .

Since the intensity of traffic movement remains on a reduced intensity during the chilly months of winter and rise only after the commencement of summer , the people would probably find it very difficult to reach their destinations in time after the commencement of summer from March when the intensity of the traffic movement increases unprecedentedly across Srinagar city.
