Workshop on gender sensitisation held at GPGCW Gandhinagar

Jammu : The Department of Sociology, Government PG College for Women, Gandhinagar, in collaboration with IQAC today organized a workshop on ‘Gender Sensitization’, under the banner of ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ in the college auditorium.
The programme was held under the patronage of College Principal, Prof (Dr.) Sangita Nagari.
She acknowledged the importance of organizing such events so as to sensitize the students and the society at large on the gender and the gender related issues. The committee members of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, Prof.Sujata Slathia (H.O.D Economics), Prof.Mala Bhasin (H.O.D Botany) and IQAC Convenor Dr. Suresh Bhat graced the occasion.
The programme began with the lightning of the lamp by the dignitaries. The welcome address was given by the H.O.D Sociology, Dr. Suraj Mohani Jamwal.
Prof. (Dr.) Vishav Raksha (H.O.D Sociology & Director, Centre for Women Studies, University of Jammu) was the Resource Person of the programme held in two sessions.
In the first session, Prof. Vishav Raksha focused on the conceptual understanding of Gender, wherein she highlighted how the social construction of gender takes place, the influence it has in our day to day life. She emphasized on the need to change the perspective on gender, the need for sensitization right from the early life of a child. She stressed upon the impressive role which an educational institution can play in gender sensitisation and thereby in bringing social change.
The second session involved the activities and interaction with the students. The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks by Dr.Shelly Sabharwal. The programme was hosted by Meliha Mustaq and Ms. Muskan Sharma (3rd sem students). The faculty members Prof. Suman Charak Jamwal, Dr. Pooja Charak, Prof.Eisha Gohil, Prof.Jagmeet Kour, Prof. Varun and others were also present. Around 150 students participated in the event following all the Covid related guidelines.
