Jammu : To mark observance of the World Aids Day 2021, J&K Aids Control Society and Department of Health & Medical Education Wednesday organised an awareness event here at Kala Kendra on the theme ‘End Inequalities, End Aids, and End Pandemic’ with special focus on reaching people left behind.
The event was inaugurated by Director Health Service Jammu, Dr Renu Sharma; Principal Government Medical College Jammu, Dr Shashi Sudan and Project Director JKACS, Department of Health & Medical Education, J&K, Dr Samir Matoo.
In her address, Dr Renu Sharma educated the public about ways in which HIV AIDS spreads and its prevention.
The Principal GMC also spoke on the occasion and urged the public not to ostracise the AIDS patients and treat them as equals. She informed the participants that AIDS is not a communicable disease.
Dr Samir Mattoo shed light on various measures and activities being organized by JKACS and called upon the public for greater participation and cooperation. He also called for a united fight against HIV AIDS.
On the occasion, certificates and prize money were also distributed among the winners of various competitions held earlier under the awareness campaign. Similar events are being held at district level throughout J&K and Ladakh by concerned Chief Medical Officers.
