KU’s South Campus holds plantation drive as part of ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ celebrations

Srinagar,: A plantation drive was on Tuesday organised at South Campus University of Kashmir as part of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ celebrations.
Faculty members, non-teaching staff, students and officials from Social Forestry Division Anantnag actively participated in the day-long drive during which highly-prized Ginkgo Bioloba and other Conifer tree seedlings were planted.
The plantation drive, organised in collaboration with Social Forestry Division Anantnag, was led by Prof Aijaz Ahmad Wani, Director South Campus and Shama Roohi, DFO Anantnag and other officers and officials.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Aijaz highlighted the objectives of the ‘Green India, Clean India’ initiative and said the university administration, under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor Prof Talat Ahmad and Registrar Dr Nisar A Mir, is committed to support all pro-environment initiatives.
Dr Aijaz said such initiatives will continue to be held in South Campus to make it greener.
DFO Anantnag Shama Roohi thanked the Director South Campus for highlighting the multifold benefits of tree plantation and assured all possible support in providing unique saplings to the campus in future.
Meanwhile, Prof Aijaz lauded the efforts of Dr Firdous Ahmad Shah, Convenor NSS Wing and Nasir Ali, Landscape Officer, in making the plantation drive a success. He also appreciated the landscape division, proctorial wing and other staff associated with preparations of the event.
