Rajouri : Week-long celebrations of Jan Jatiya Gourav Saptah organised to commemorate the unsung tribal heroes, who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of country, culminated here Monday.
The Tribal Pride Week was celebrated under the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav which is being observed across the country to commemorate 75 years of India’s Independence.
It is for the first time that programmes were organised on such a large scale to pay tributes to tribal freedom fighters and celebrate the rich cultural heritage of the tribes.
District Administration Rajouri celebrated the Jan Jatiya Gourav Saptah with great verve and hold a series of activities at different places to educate the masses about the role of tribal leaders, including iconic tribal freedom fighter Birsa Munda.
On the culminating day of the Tribal Pride Week, Rajouri Administration organised a grand program here in the Conference Hall of the PWD Dak Bungalow.
District Development Commissioner Rajouri, Rajesh K Shavan was the Chief Guest. BDC Chairperson Rajouri, Darbar Chowdhary; ADC Rajouri, Sachin Dev Singh; DSEO, Bilal Rashid Mir; Principal GGMHSS Rajouri, Abdul Raof Dar; District Culture Officer, Dr Alam Dar; Warden Gujjar and Bakerwal Hostel; Mohd Azam; Warden Boys Hostel, Abdul Hameed; Warden Girls Pahari Hostel, Nasreen; DIO, Narinder Kumar; AD Planning, Mohd Rafi; Administrator OSC, Nitu Sharma besides prominent citizens and students attended the event.
The program was held in three sessions including screening of a short patriotic movie on Tribal leader and freedom fighter Birsa Munda, a cultural program followed by an interaction of Deputy Commissioner with the students.
First Session was a short patriotic movie on Birsa Munda through which the participants were made aware of the role of the tribals in the Indian Freedom struggle. Detailed light on how the tribal communities have enriched the country’s cultural heritage, through their exquisite art and craft was also thrown.
They have also played a leading role in the promotion, protection and conservation of the environment through their traditional practices; with their vast repository of traditional knowledge, they have been the torch-bearers of sustainable development.
In the second session, a cultural event was organised in which the Gojri poets mesmerized the audience with their heart touching and beautiful poems.
During the third and the last session, the students interacted with Deputy Commissioner, Rajesh K Shavan who shared his valuable experiences of his life and how he became an administrator. He also advised the students to dream big and work hard to achieve the desired goals of their lives.
The National Anthem was also sung by the participants during the event.
Addressing the participants, Deputy Commissioner Rajouri recalled the contribution of Birsa Munda in providing a sharp edge to the freedom movement & protecting the interests of the tribals.
He said that the lives of the tribal heroes will continue to inspire Indians for all times to come and we all need to acknowledge the invaluable contributions of the tribal communities to the freedom struggle.
The DC also enumerated the measures taken by the Government for the uplift of Tribal communities.
He said that specific focus is being given by the Government for the holistic development and welfare of Tribal people to ensure empowerment of the community at all fronts.
He also stressed the need for generating massive awareness among the general public about the significance of the day so that the coming generations could know about the sacrifices of the tribal community for the country.
