Srinagar : Police on Wednesday said that it has busted gang of dacoits by arresting four accused persons involved in extortion & theft cases in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district. Police also said that jewellery and other articles worth lacs of rupees were also recovered.
In a statement issued here on Wednesday police said that Police Station Rajpora Pulwama received information with regard to roaming of a gang of dacoits in the area during night time, masquerading themselves to be gunmen and extorted valuables on gun point from the inmates of targeted houses.
Stating that on receiving inputs Pulwama Police established various checkpoints/traps and managed to apprehend one culprit red-handed at Hanjin Balla while executing his criminal act and identified him as Aamir Majeed Mir son of Ab Majeed Mir resident of Rajpora Pulwama, police said during search one toy pistol & extorted jewellery items were recovered from the possession of the above named accused.
Police in the referred statement further said “during questioning, the above named accused disclosed that he alongwith other two persons namely Aamir Ali Chopan son of Ali Mohd Chopan resident of Rajpora and Umar Rasheed son of Ab Rasheed Dar resident of Rajpora, were involved in recent theft & extortion incidents in Rajpora area”, adding that “during further questioning, the said accused also disclosed the name of one goldsmith namely Altaf Ahmad Naikoo son of Mohd Yousuf from Meemander Shopian who used to receive stolen jewellery after which they were arrested and shifted to Police Station where they remain in custody”.
Stating further that officers recovered extorted jewellery including eight Golden Rings, a plain golden chain, a golden chain with beeds, 02 golden pounds, 02 golden ear rings & a golden necklace besides a stolen load carrier bearing registration number JK03A-2171 has also been recovered, police in it’s statement said cases under relevant sections of law were registered and further investigation is in progress.
