“Janjatiya Gaurav Divas” observed across Kashmir

Srinagar: The “Janjatiya Gaurav Divas”, is being observed to mark the birth anniversary of iconic tribal leader Birsa Munda who fearlessly worked for the freedom of India.As part of the celebrations, meaningful programmes aimed at tribal welfare and development were organized across Kashmir.
At Anantnag: The District Administration Anantnag celebrated the Jan Jatiya Gaurav Diwas at Town Hall Anantnag.
The programme saw participation of masses particularly members of the tribal community.On the occasion, various speakers threw light on the priceless sacrifices by various tribal leaders on the path of securing freedom for their nation. Various tribal arts and crafts were also displayed during the programme. The DDC Chairman, MY Gorsi while addressing the gathering said that such programs are important to spread awareness among tribals and people in general about the welfare programs being run by the government. He appreciated the district administration for facilitating the program. He said that the community has excelled in various fields and more is being done for upliftment of the tribal community.Speaking at the event, the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Anantnag said that various welfare programs and schemes are being run by the government for targeted development of these communities while upholding their unique cultural character. He emphasized the role of FRA – 2008, terming it a historic intervention through which tribal communities can steer themselves towards development and prosperity and claim hitherto denied rights.The celebration was attended by senior officials from the district administration.
At Pulwama: The Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC) Pulwama, Dr. Sheikh Ab Aziz inaugurated the weeklong programme on Janjatiya Gourav Divas and Janjatiya Gourav Saptah at District Administrative, here.The programme was organized by District Administration in collaboration with Tribal Research Institute J&K.
While inaugurating the programme, the ADDC said that the government has launched many welfare schemes that shall improve the socio-economic condition of the tribal population with special focus on skill development and employment generation. He also said that the Government has initiated a number of measures for the welfare of tribal communities.He said that the Department of Tribal Affairs is taking steps for effective implementation of the Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Rights) Act 2006. He also said the District Level and Sub-Divisional Level Committees have been constituted while the Tribal Affairs department is also working on developing community facilities.The ADDC reiterated that the govt is dedicated to improve the lives of the tribal communities by designing policies and programmes benefitting tribal population.Among others the programme was attended by Assistant Commissioner Development, concerned Officers and senior citizens of Tribal community and PRIs of the district.
At Shopian: As part of “Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav “, the District Administration Shopian has planned week-long celebrations starting from 15 November to 22nd November to commemorate 75 years of glorious history of tribal people, their culture and achievements.
The Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Shopian, Mushtaq Ahmed Simnani was the Chief Guest and Joint Director Planning, Khursheed Ahmed Khatana as Guest of Honour at the inaugural function organised here.The District celebrated the birth anniversary of Birsa Munda, the tribal freedom fighter, as Janjatiya Gaurav Divas on 15 November.Speaking on the occasion, the ADC said that the declaration of 15 November as Janjatiya Gourav Divas is dedicated to the memory of brave tribal freedom fighters so that coming generations could know about their sacrifices for the country.The Joint Director Planning stated that India’s freedom struggle was strengthened by several movements by tribal communities. However, the public at large is not much aware about these tribal heroes.He said that the declaration acknowledges the glorious history and cultural heritage of tribal communities. The day will be celebrated every year and would recognise the efforts of the tribals for preservation of cultural heritage and promotion of Indian values of valour, hospitality and national pride.DDC Members, Sarpanches, Panches, District Officers and Tribal people in large numbers attended the event.
At Kulgam: In honour of Tribal Freedom fighters the district Administration Kulgam Monday celebrated Janjati Gourav Divas at Mini-Secretariat, here. During the function the services and sacrifices rendered by tribal freedom fighters were recalled.While addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kulgam, Dr.Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din-Bhat said that there is 30 percent tribal population in the district and concerted and coordinated efforts are in place for proper upliftment of tribal community by the Government.He added that tribal pride week celebration shall continue in the district and during this week multifarious cultural and awareness programmes will be organized to promote and preserve tribal culture.
He also urged the participants’ especially tribal unemployed youth to avail benefits of various tribal welfare and employment generation schemes.
He also instructed the officers to make best use of this tribal pride week celebrations in sensitizing people of tribal community about the various tribal welfare and other beneficiary oriented schemes so that they can avail benefits of these schemes.During his speech, the DC informed that the admission process in Eklavya Residential School shall commence soon.He also assured the people that the district administration has chalked out a plan to provide hassle-free services to people during this winter season.DDC members, ADDC, members from tribal community, District and sectoral officers attended the function.
On the occasion colorful cultural programmes were also presented.
At Kupwara: To commemorate “Janjatiya Gaurav Divas”, a function was held here in D.C.Office Kupwara in which officers of administration and members of tribal community participated. Presiding over the function, the Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Imam Din in his address said that the aim of celebrating “Janjatiya Gaurav Divas” is to focus on the upliftment and development of tribal community, besides, promotion of tribal art, craft and cuisine. He added that the Government is committed to promote the development of tribal communities by securing their interest in all welfare programmes and schemes. AC Panchayats, Shabir Ahmad also spoke and provided detailed awareness to the participants about reservation of tribal communities in Panchayati Raj Act. He also spoke on various RDD schemes focusing entirely on upliftment and development of tribal people. Other officers also spoke and emphasized the importance of celebrating the “Janjatiya Gaurav Divas”. On the occasion, members of the tribal community also interacted with the officers and got awareness about various programmes envisaged by the Government for their development. Later, the ST members performed tribal dance, music and enthralled the audience. JD Planning, Abdul Majeed; SDM Karnah, Dr. Gulzar Ahmad Rather; AC Panchayats and other concerned attended the occasion.
At Bandipora: The District Administration Bandipora on Monday commemorated “JanJatiya Gaurav Divas” in memory of the tribal Freedom Fighters who made a great sacrifice for the country.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Bandipora, Dr Owais Ahmad was the chief guest on the occasion while officers of Rural Development Department, members of Youth Clubs of Tribal areas and other senior officers were present on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Owais urged the tribal youth to celebrate their culture and be proud of that. He said the government has taken holistic measures to uplift youth belonging to the tribal community.He said it should be the joint endeavour of the government and the people to encourage tribal art, craft and enterprise along with creating better opportunities of education, health and livelihood for the tribal.Dr Owais urged the youth club members to act as the bridge between the government and the tribal population by disseminating information among the tribal masses about various welfare schemes to uplift their socio-economic status while keeping their art culture, customs and traditions well preserved.He said the administration shall hold a week-long programme to celebrate the tribal culture and acknowledge the contribution of tribal leaders for the freedom struggle. He urged the youth to hold special programmes for the purpose of tribal population besides holding cultural programmes in schools and colleges so that people from other communities get to know about their culture and bonhomie is developed between different cultures.The DC said that as part of the JanJatiya Gaurav Divas, the district administration shall honor the tribal freedom fighters besides taking steps to promote tribal art, craft and cuisine. He said ST entrepreneurs shall also be felicitated besides starting new programmes for tribal welfare.He also directed officers to frame a schedule of week-long activities to be conducted across the District in consultation with Tribal representatives and showcase the cultural and other aspects of Tribal of the district.
