Advisor Khan visits Shafaqat Rehab Center at Bemina

Says “Such centres inspire confidence among the specially abled to compete for their share in the society”

Srinagar: Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Farooq Khan Saturday visited Shafaqat Rehabilitation Centre of Voluntary Medicare Society (VMS) at Bemina here.
On the occasion, Advisor Khan inspected various sections of the rehabilitation facility and interacted with patients and staff.
He enquired about the equipments, machines and line of treatment for various specially abled patients.
He visited gym, physio & occupational therapy section, developmental therapy, vocational therapy sections. Besides, he inspected male and female wards, prosthetic & orthotic department, auditorium among other sections.
On the occasion, Advisor Khan appreciated the rehabilitation center for their services provided to people who need special care.
He said such centers are giving hope to hundreds of people who are in need of assistance and require intervention from professionals.
He reiterated that such centres inspire confidence among the specially abled to compete for their share in the society and also enable them to take part in all human and developmental activities.
He extended a congratulatory note to all the members and professionals associated with this initiative. Appreciating their contribution to the field, he said that if the society has to evolve and grow in all aspects, then the needs and requirements of such specially abled have to be catered so that their talents also become an asset for our society.
The centre is providing them with chance to change their outlook towards the opportunities that life throws at them, with the treatment and care afforded through this centre, and added that it will emerge as a world class centre for specially abled persons.
The Advisor also visited Shafaqat Inclusive Special school and also interacted with children and teachers there.
He enquired about the education method of the specially abled children in their education.
Advisor Khan also distributed one month ration kits to several attendants accompanying patients at the rehabilitation center.
The Advisor was accompanied by Officer on Special Duty to Advisor (F), Mohammad Ashraf Hakak; administrator VMS, Dr Abid and other concerned.
Meanwhile, Advisor Khan inaugurated wheelchair basketball training programme in the VCS premises. He also witnessed a mixed practice match played by specially abled boys and girls. The three day training programme is being organized by VMS in collaboration with wheelchair federation of India and International Committee of the Red Cross.
Advisor Khan interacted with players , trainer and appreciated the efforts being put in by VMS towards the rehabilitation, upliftment and welfare of the persons with disabilities.The Advisor also distributed trophies among the match participants.
