Winter preparedness, Disaster mgmt training session held at Dakbanglow, Khanabal

Anantnag: Under the Chairmanship of District Development Commissioner (DDC) Anantnag, Dr Piyush Singla, the District Disaster Management Authority Friday organised awareness session at Dak Bungalow Khanabal here to train field functionaries to respond to natural disasters like Earth quake, Snow avalanches, domestic fire incidents, medical emergencies etc.
In order to address eventualities on account of natural disasters effectively and efficiently, winter control room has been established in DC office Anantnag under the supervision of CEO, DDMA besides two disaster mitigation cum relief centres are operating on National Highway 44 between Khanabal and Jawahar tunnel with all necessary facilities like bedding, cooking, food, heating system etc .
Addressing the gathering, Dr Singla said that field functionaries including numberdars, chowkidars PRI representatives are usually the first people to witness and report such incidents at the local level. As such it is imperative that they have a basic understanding of first response to such events for effective disaster mitigation.
Meanwhile, the training is being imparted to inculcate among them effective response to a disaster based on scientific and rational understanding of the event. He further said that local intervention in case of disasters would reduce the response time and save valuable life and property during such hazardous events.
The DDC reiterated that the district administration has launched “SUKOON” app to lodge all relief recommendations in case of disasters. He further said that relief cases are processed in a time bound manner and relief is being disbursed within 15 days of occurrence of an event.
DSP DAR, Mohammad Aziz informed the DC that the participants will be educated about various disasters, effective responses and live demonstrations would be given to train them to be efficient responders.
Professional fire fighters demonstrated mitigative responses during fire incidents, natural disasters, etc utilizing commonly available domestic resources. They also demonstrated use of advanced gadgets to respond to such calamities.
The session was attended by ADC, Tehsildar consolidation, PRIs, field functionaries from revenue department, fire and emergency personnel’s among others.
