Kashmir shivers under sub-zero temperature, Srinagar records season’s coldest night

Srinagar/Nov, 13: Most places in Kashmir valley recorded sub-zero temperature while Srinagar, the summer capital of J&K, had season’s coldest night so far on Saturday.
Quoting a meteorological department official, said that mercury settled at 0.1°C against previous night’s 0.7°C in Srinagar. The temperature is below minus 1.1°C than the normal for this time of the year in the city and was lowest so far this season, the official said.Also fog engulfed many parts including the city as a consequence of which vehicles moved with head-lights on during the morning.
Qazigund, the gateway town of Kashmir, recorded minimum temperature of minus 1.0°C against previous night’s 0.6°C, the official said. It was minus 2.3°C below normal for the place, the official said.
Pahalgam, the famous resort in south Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 3.5°C against minus 3.4°C on the previous night and normal of minus 1.2°C, he said.
Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, recorded a minimum temperature of 0.4°C against 1.8°C on the previous night and it was minus 1.9°C below normal there, the official said.
Kupwara town in north Kashmir recorded a low of minus 1.1°C against minus 0.9°C on the previous night, the official said.
Gulmarg, the world famous skiing resort in north Kashmir, recorded a minimum of minus 2.0°against minus 0.6°C on the previous night, the official said.
Leh recorded a low of minus 7.1°C against last night’s minus 7.0°C while mercury settled at minus 3.2°C against minus 1.9°C last night in Kargil, the official said.
The MeT office has said that the weather shall remain dry for at least November 19 in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
