Food safety team conducts quality check of milk, by-products in Srinagar

Srinagar: On the directions of the District Development Commissioner Srinagar, a special drive to check quality of milk and milk products, fruits and vegetables was conducted by the team of food safety officers under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner Food Safety Srinagar.
During the drive, mobile food testing van was utilized for on spot testing of milk. Besides, milk containers were also checked while unfit utensils were destroyed.
Meanwhile, 21 legal samples of the milk were lifted for analytical purpose and around 3 quintals of substandard milk was destroyed on spot. In addition huge quantity of rotten fruits and vegetables were also destroyed.
Moreover, complaints against 20 food business operators who were found violating sanitary and hygienic requirements under Food Safety & Standards Act were prepared for presentation before competent court.
Commissioner, Food and Drugs administration has directed enforcement officers to keep vigil on the quality of food articles and take stern action against violators. He also informed that any complaint with regard to quality of food and drugs can be filed on toll free number 104.
