Identify, promote commodities of surplus production under ODOP: Div Com (K)

Says ‘export potential of a product needs prior evaluation’

Srinagar: The Divisional Commissioner (Div Com) Kashmir, Pandurang K Pole on Tuesday emphasized on identification and promotion of products of surplus productivity under One District One Product (ODOP) to make districts as export hubs.
The Div Com said that the revenue generation of selected products should be evaluated and the product should be viable to export in large quantity.
The meeting was attended by Managing Director JKTPO, All DCs, Director General Horticulture, Director Handloom and Handicrafts, Director Industries and Commerce besides other district officers.
On the occasion, MD JKTPO gave presentation on plan for making every District Export Hub under One District One Product of Agriculture, Horticulture and Handicraft sector in which she stressed on adopting minimum number of products having prolific production in a district besides pointed towards revamping of sections of existing policy, logistic intervention and other requirements.
The meeting discussed finalization of ODOP items under scheme, limiting 3-5 products in each districts of Kashmir Division and finalization of draft District Export action plan by respective DCs as per the draft template shared earlier with DICs.
Meanwhile, Div Com stressed on establishment of Common facility centres (CFCs) and Cluster centres to carry out the related activities for production, value addition, and export of identified products. He said that existing vacant buildings should be utilized for Cluster centres and CFCs while more focus should be laid on procuring machinery of Cluster centres.
Div Com was informed by DCs about the products to be selected under ODOP while Director General Horticulture also informed about the horticulture products specified for every district. Besides, Director H&H informed that handicraft products are fetching over Rupees one thousand crore of revenue annually and said that handicraft products will be also selected under ODOP.
