First edition of TEDxPoloView held at NIT Srinagar

Srinagar/Nov 10: National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar hosted the first edition of ‘TEDxPoloView’ on the campus on Sunday. The Department of Training and Placement of the Institute was the host and Knowledge Partner of the mega event.
Director NIT Srinagar, Prof. (Dr.) Rakesh Sehgal was the Chief Patron, while Dr. Obbu Chandra Sekhar (Head, Training & Placement Dept. NIT Srinagar) was the Chief Coordinator of the event.
Prof. Talat Ahmad, Vice-Chancellor, University of Kashmir was the Chief Guest of the event. The event was inaugurated by Prof. G.A. Harmain from NIT Srinagar.
In his message, Director NIT Prof. Sehgal said such events inspire the students to accelerate in their careers, fields and are important for their all-round development.
He also expressed his gratitude to the TEDxPoloView team for choosing NIT Srinagar as their knowledge partner. Prof. Sehgal appreciated the Head Training & Placement Department, Dr. Obbu Chandra, and his entire team for making the event a grand success.
Registrar NIT Srinagar, Prof. Kaiser Bukhari said motivational talks help students to believe in themselves and empower their confidence. It is always essential for students to stay motivated and have faith in themselves, he said.
Prof. Bukhari said motivation gives students an extreme amount of hope and confidence, which later helps in their lives to move beyond imagination.
It was the first standard TEDx event in Kashmir since 2012, which was open to the general public. More than 250 participants attended the event. In the program, the first talk was delivered by Dr. Syed Sehrish Asgar MD J&K Rural Livelihood Mission on “Success is about Problem Solving”.
While addressing the gathering, she narrated her inspiring story and stated that goals can be achieved through hard work, dedication, and commitment. There is no shortcut to success, Dr. Sehrish said.
Director Meteorological Department, J&K, Sonam Lotus, who is also called ‘weatherman of Kashmir’, shared his journey with the attendants.
On the occasion, Dr Syed Abid Rashid Shah (IAS, CEO Economic Reconstruction Agency J&K / MD Jal Jeevan Mission J&K delivered TEDx talk on “Successful Failures”.
Dr. Abid talked about how a person can learn from his failures and end up being successful in any field. He also mentioned names of famous personalities who once failed in their fields but ended up successful in their lives. Journalist Yana Meer and Refaz Wani (Innovator, Presidential Awardee) also shared their inspiring journeys . Dr. Seemin Rubab, Associate Professor Physics Department NIT Srinagar delivered her TED talk on ‘Life in Science’. She has 30+Publications and expertise in Applied Physics).
World Kickboxing Champion, Tajamul Islam also gave a TEDx Talk regarding her journey of laurels. In her talk, she mentioned the hurdles that she faced during the match preparation and the never-ending support of her parents and siblings.
In TEDxPoloView, Kamila Mushtaq (KAS Topper and recently posted BDO Singhpora Pattan) presented her TED talk on the ‘Current administrative challenges in Kashmir’.
RJ Rafia (Journalist and RJ) and Dr. Muzafer Khan (Clinical Psychologist and Director Police De-Addiction Centre, Kashmir) also presented TED talks, sharing their professional journeys.
Athar Aamir Khan (IAS AIR 2, Commissioner, Srinagar Municipal Corporation) inspired the audience through his motivational TED talk.
The most awaited TED talk was that of Yawar Abdal (Famous Kashmiri Singer) who shared his inspiring journey with the audience and also performed several songs including ‘Kalakaar’ and his hit song ‘Tamanna’.

TEDx is a globally known platform that emphasizes amplifying the ideas driving global revolution, positive change, and innovation, a community committed to bringing the best ideas to the world by providing the speakers an opportunity to share their journey, experience, stories, thoughts, and ideas with the larger audience offline as well as online. The speakers from various fields deliver talks to inspire, encourage and motivate the energetic audience.
Dr. Tahir Wani, Dr. Amandeep Singh, and Dr. Mohd. Rafiq Teli were the faculty coordinators for the event. The event was hosted by Syed Aga Hadi Riza (ECE’22) and Zoya Arief (CSE’22) – final year students from NIT Srinagar. The Organizing team is comprised of B.Tech. and MBA Students from NIT Srinagar.
While, Vote of thanks was presented by Mr. Rameez Ahmad, The Licensee of TEDxPoloView.
He expressed his gratitude to the Director NIT Srinagar, Prof. Rakesh Sehgal, and Head T&P, Dr. Obbu Chandra Sekhar for providing the necessary resources to make TEDxPoloView possible. Rameez also thanked the Sponsors of this event – Guardian Angels, FT Group, Getoes, Bizza Café Heritage, Wadie’s Hindi Shiksha Samiti, The Bayleaf, and Etalian.
