Jammu: A six-year-old boy was killed while eight others including seven children sustained injuries on Monday after a vehicle they were travelling in met with an accident at Kowbagh area of Ramban.
Police officials said that at about 1700 hrs, Police station Ramban received a message that a makeshift motorcycle-rickshaw met with an accident at Kowbagh, which was driven by driver Rampaul of Punjab, carrying eight children in the trailer.
“When the police party reached the spot, one child was found dead while the rest of the injured were shifted to the hospital,” police said while identifying the deceased as six-year-old Bhirbhan, son of Rampal.
The injured have been identified as Rampal, son of Ramswaroop of vill Baladah distt Mansa PB. A/P Kowbagh Ramban, 12-year-old Suraj Bhan, son of Rampal, 7-year-old Chameli, daughter of Rampal, 6-year-old Gulshan, daughter Salman of Zila basti UP A/P Kowbagh Ramban, 3-year-old Zameerun, daughter of Salman, 9-year-old Chandni, daughter of Mohd Israr of Kowbagh Ramban, 12-year-old Salma, daughter of Mohd Israr and 14-year-old Sabana, daughter of Mohd Israr.
Police said that five children have been referred to GMC Jammu who are in a critical condition, adding that the driver was driving the vehicle in a rash and negligent manner, losing control due to over speeding.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ramban and Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ramban along with other district officials visited the spot and police has taken cognizance in this regard
