Dengue is a viral disease caused by the bite of an infected female Aedes mosquito which is a highly domesticated voracious day biter and breeds in clean water, in and around the houses like old tyres, backyard litter etc.
A total of 993 cases of Dengue have been reported in Jammu and Kashmir with majority of cases in districts of Jammu (639), Kathua (172) and Samba (87) in Jammu Division till November 2, 2021.
On the spot visit was conducted to the areas having high number of reported cases. Radio talks to increase the awareness among the masses regarding preventive measures have been aired periodically by the senior officers of the Department.
In collaboration with Jammu Municipal Corporation, thermal fogging has been conducted to kill adult mosquitoes two rounds (42 days) in a phased manner covering 75 wards of Jammu urban areas and additional rounds of fogging as per the NVBDCP guidelines. Similar activities were carried out in Samba, Kathua & Udhampur districts. Extra round of spraying was also done in collaboration with JMC. Indoor space spray and larvicide sprays are being done as per guidelines. Ten Sentinel Surveillance Hospitals with diagnostic facilities are functional to treat Dengue patients. Keeping in view the upsurge of cases, 155 beds have been dedicated for the hospitalized patients at GMC, Jammu and all District Hospitals and new GMCs at Doda, Kathua and Rajouri
