Srinagar: To highlight the significance of integrity, honesty and transparency in public life, Central University of Kashmir (CUK) Monday organised a sensitization programme for the employees in connection with the Vigilance Awareness Week.
The week-long celebrations emphasize the promotion of ethics and ethical practices in the domains of organizational, institutional and public life.
Speaking on the occasion, I/c Vice Chancellor, Prof. Fayaz A Nikka said the primary objective of the programme is to encourage all the functionaries to individually and collectively contribute to the prevention of, and fight against corruption, mal-practices and to raise public awareness regarding the existence, causes and consequences of corruption, and unethical conduct. He said, “the greed has overtaken the need,” which is a major cause of rampant corruption. Prof. Fayaz A Nikka said the observance of Vigilance Awareness Week every year is a part of the multi-pronged approach of the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) to sensitize the employees and the people about the ways and means to check corruption.
Addressing the participants through online mode, Registrar, Prof. M Afzal Zargar said, that despite stringent laws and establishment of several government institutions to check the bribery and other forms of corruption in public and private organizations, it is still rampant. He said that corruption needs to be checked and addressed immediately, adding that corruption should be bracketed with the crime and those involved should be punished.
In his welcome address, Dean Students Welfare, Dr. Mehraj ud Din Shah said, the purpose of holding programmes during the Vigilance Awareness Week is to sensitize the officials and the people about the ill effects of corruption and to encourage them to fight against the menace.
The employees also took a pledge to perform all tasks with honesty and in a transparent manner and also report any incident of corruption to the appropriate agency.
Deputy Director DSW, Green Campus, Mr. Faizan Ashraf Mir conducted the programme proceedings while as Deputy Director, DSW, Tulmullah Campus, Dr. Asif Khan proposed the vote of thanks.
