Festive Season: DFCO launches Food Safety on Wheels drive for on the spot testing of foodstuff

Jammu: Drug and Food Control Organization Saturday launched Food Safety on Wheels (FSW) drive through Mobile Food Testing Vans for on the spot testing of Foodstuff.
“To ensure the availability of quality food products during the ongoing festive season, a 15 day special drive has been launched with positioning of Food Safety on Wheels a mobile Food Testing unit in the prominent markets of the Jammu division for the on the spot testing of Milk & Milk Products, sweets and other local traditional food items of the festive season. These mobile units were used for spreading awareness with regard to food safety & sanitary/hygienic parameters to follow in the manufacture/sale of Food items” a handout of the Organisation Stated.
During the ongoing special drive, 299 samples of sweets, milk & Milk products were tested on the spot through mobile food testing vans, wherein 19 samples were found not conforming to the legal standards mandated under the Act.
Legal samples have been lifted against all these non conforming samples and sent for further quality testing to Food testing Laboratory Jammu. The FBOs whose samples have been declared not of standard Quality are Madan Sweet Shop Kunjwani Talab , Jammu ( Milk Cake); Yash Paul Sharma Sweet Shop Ward No. 10 Bishnah (Khoya); M/S Babu Ram Sweet Shop, Sungal Akhnoor ( Buri); M/s Yog Raj Sweet Shop opposite Exchange Akhnoor ( Milk cake); Rakesh Sweet Shop Palli Morh Kathua ( Khoya barfi); Sharma tea Stall , Palli Morh Kathua ( Milk cake); Jagdambey Food Corner palli Morh ( pastry); M/s Bansotra Milk products Gajansoo ( buffalo Milk) ; M/S Darshan Kumar Sweet Shop Gajansoo ( Milk cake); M/s Laxmi Sweet Shop, Khour Camp( Milk cake); M/S sharma Milk cake Khour Camp( Milk Cake); M/S Raj Kumar Sweet Shop , Khour camp ( Milk Cake); M/ Sharma Di hatti Nagrota ( milk cake); M/S Dubay Sweets Nagrotra ( peda); M/s raju Sweet Shop Nagrota ( Mixed Mix); M/s Subash Chander Sweet ShopMisriwala( burfi/ Milk Cake); M/s Gurdeep Milk Products & Sweet Shop Mira Sahib ( Dahi); M/s Choudhary Milk Shop Simbal Morh RSPUR ( Mixed Milk)
The drive shall continue throughout the festive season. The department has urged the consumers, NGOs, Educational Institutions etc. to come forward and play an active role in creating a safe food ecosystem by availing the facilities of these Mobile Food Testing Vans and also help in identifying the lapses regarding food safety issues.
