With the no of covid deaths fast reducing across Jammu & Kashmir like several states and union territories of the country the Jammu & Kashmir Government has announced cash relief of Rs 50,000 to the next of the kins of each one of the over four thousand virus victims in Jammu & Kashmir . Though announcement has brought big respite to the families of over four thousand covid victims in Jammu & Kashmir but keeping in view the increasing huge economic stress which heads to no dead end in Jammu & Kashmir like other parts of the country the cash relief should not have been less than one lac rupees to the next of the kins of each one of over four thousand virus victims in Jammu & Kashmir. A cash relief of Rs 50,000 to the next of the kins of over four thousand virus victims by all standards of understandabilities is not sufficient enough for them to withstand the increasing economic stress generated by back to back two covid lockdowns in last two years as most of the private business houses have reduced their staff by not less than 50% in phases during last two years. Since most of the covid victims in Jammu & Kashmir were reportedly the sole bread earners of their families , this factor is also to be kept in mind in case of any other decision that J&K Government may consider in future for mitigating the sufferings of families of about 4500 covid victims of Jammu & Kashmir presently finding themselves at the receiving end. Other two key measures which could mitigate the sufferings of the families of covid victims in Jammu & Kashmir could be a waiver of education fee in schools, colleges and universities and reservation in admission to professional courses and government jobs for the children of covid victims for next five years.
Keeping view the intensity of the increasing economic stress in Jammu & Kashmir like several states and union territories of the county the disbursement should be made through DBT to the next of the kins of covid victims in a time bound manner after proper verification of their family status and personal credentials.
As of now nothing can be said about the concessions government may consider in future for the families of about 4500 covid victims of Jammu & Kashmir but right now the immediate disbursement of the just announced cash relief of cash relief of Rs 50,000 to the next of the kins of over four thousand virus victims would bring a huge respite to them. Obviously the transparency in the disbursement of this cashed relief could be ensured only through DBT without insistence on completion of avoidable codel formalities in the process of disbursement. Keeping view the intensity of the increasing economic stress in Jammu & Kashmir like several states and union territories of the county the disbursement should be made through DBT to the next of the kins of covid victims in a time bound manner after proper verification of their family status and personal credentials.
