Jammu : BJP leader, Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo Friday said that he has taken up the issue of selective killings of minorities with the United Nations Human Rights Council.
In a statement, issued here on Friday Chrungoo said that in memorandum missive to the president of the UNHRC, Geneva, Nuzhat Shameem he has stated that last year also they had brought up the issue of killings of political grassroots representatives and other minority community members in the valley to their notice.
“We earnestly request the hon’ble Council to view this whole issue in perspective of the continued ethnic cleansing of Hindus and Sikhs in the valley.” The statement reads that the National Human Rights Commission of India observed recently in this connection that, “the painful incidents of killing of civilians are a serious threat to the democratic fibre of the country and people’s right to life, liberty, equality and dignity.
“Targeted killings of those who are not Kashmiri Muslims is an attempt to keep non-Muslims out of the Valley. It is a gross violation of human rights of minority communities in the Valley, which must be stopped. The Commission takes suo motu cognisance of the incident and directs issuance of notices to the Chief Secretary, Jammu & Kashmir and the DGP, Jammu & Kashmir calling for a detailed report in the matter including present status of the investigation being conducted and steps be taken or proposed to be taken by the authorities to safeguard innocent citizens’ lives from being killed in a targeted manner.”
“We strongly believe that the UNHRC could take a punitive action against the regime of terrorists and their sponsors in Pakistan. You are requested to, as a first measure, initiate an enquiry into these gory incidents of ethnic cleansing of minorities in Kashmir and also censure Pakistan for its role in the abatement and sponsorship of terrorism and genocide in the valley.”
He hoped that the Council will take an urgent view of the situation.
