Jammu:The Directorate of Tourism, Jammu in collaboration with District Administration Jammu, Jammu & Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture & Languages and Regional Outreach Bureau Saturday organized Garba and Dandiya Night in association with All Jammu Hotels & Lodges Association here at Gulshan Ground from 5:00 P.M onwards.
It was for the first time that Garba and Dandiya Night was organized in Jammu as part of Navratra Celebrations being held across the Division from 7th to15th October, 2021.
Synonymous with reverence, passion and enthusiasm, Navratri in Gujarat may have earned the title of being one of the longest dance festivals in the world but this event at Jammu showcased the rich cultural heritage of the city which is full of colours and truly represents #Amazing Jammu. Traditional costume, food, music and dance were the part of the festivity with colorful Dandiya and Garba performers dancing on traditional music.
The Chief Guest of the occasion, Dr. Raghav Langer, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu briefed the media that “Jammu City is full of rich cultural heritage, beautiful temples and delicious food. For creating a spirit of happiness & enthusiasm this event was planned”.
The Director Tourism, Jammu, Vivekanand Rai said that Navratra is the most cherished festival of the region which is celebrated across India. As pilgrims come to pay obeisance to Mata Vaishno Devi Ji, this event at Gulshan Ground will bring Jammu city on their must visit itinerary, he hoped.
The Department of Tourism, J&K has taken this unique initiative for arranging this happening night in the city. The main highlight of the program was the folk dance “dandaras” where performers carry sticks and strike them. Dandaras is an adaptation of the dandiya raas. The other performances included Dogri Dance, Kud Dance etc. The Gulshan ground in Jammu City turned into a playground of beautiful colours, twinkling lights & music perfectly complimented by ethnic food.
Among others, Joint Director Tourism Jammu Natasha Kalsotra, ACR Jammu Rakesh Dubey, GM JKTDC Sukriti Sharma, Deputy Director publicity Naresh Kumar, Assistant Director Tourism National Highway Umesh Shan, Assistant Director tourism Sheena sahni and other members of Travel Trade Associations of Jammu were present on the occasion.
