Ganderbal: The Principal District and Sessions Judge (PD&SJ)/ Chairperson of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Ganderbal accompanied by Secretary DLSA, Panel Lawyer and PLVs visited the Subsidiary-Jail, Dignibal Ganderbal, Thursday.
The Chairperson of the DLSA Ganderbal inaugurated a Legal awareness programme on “Rights of Prisoners” in the jail and supervised the living conditions of inmates.
She advised the inmates to read books to gain knowledge and lead a better life. Grievances of inmates were heard, instructions were passed to the officials concerned to address their problems, to organize medical check-ups of the inmates regularly and to provide them all possible facilities.
Inmates were also apprised about their right of free legal aid. Dy. SP Headquarter & Incharge, Subsidiary Jail, also accompanied the judges.
Advocate S.M Mustehseen, Panel Lawyer, was the Resource Person in the programme. He sensitized the audience regarding the concept of Prisoners’ Rights and the corresponding duties of the custodians in ensuring the protection of their rights.
The Resource Person underscored the importance of vigilant Judiciary to ensure that the prisoners are not subjected to inhuman conditions within the jail and their basic rights are ensured.
