Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir government in an order said that Director SKIMS and ex-officio Secretary to government, Dr A G Ahangar will retire on December 31, 2021, who has been given an extension of 6th months earlier.
“It is hereby notified that Dr. A. G. Ahangar, Director, SKIMS & Ex-Officio Secretary to the Government, shall retire in the afternoon of 31.12.2021,” reads a government order.
The government had extended the term of Dr Ahangar till December 31 this year “in view of the situation arising due to COVID-19 in June this year.
Pertinently, the government had already started the process of appointing new director SKIMS.
As per sources Dean Medical Faculty SKIMS, Dr Omar Javaid Shah, Dr Salim Wani from Department of Urology are among the top contenders of the post.
Pertinently, Dr A G Ahangar whose term was extended for a period of six months in June had joined as director in July 2016, however, he was removed in January 2018 but he got the top position again in September 2019 after court directions.
Ahangar was supposed to retire in June this year, however, he has now got an extension for a period of six months.
Notably, several doctors and HOD’s had written to the government seeking immediate advertisement of the post of the director after reports were pouring in that Ahangar might get extension, however, in the same period around 46 doctors had demanded continuation in favour of Ahangar citing Covid-19 situation.
Applications for appointment of new director were sought from Indian Nationals and applicants were asked to submit forms online from 8th September.
Additional Director Administration SKIMS Riyaz Ahmad wani said that the portal of submitting application forms for the post of Director SKIMS was on Thursday closed.
He, however, said that they don’t have any information who and how many people have submitted forms for this post
