Srinagar: The Director Agriculture Kashmir, Chowdhary Mohammad Iqbal Thursday inaugurated the valley wide campaign of Oilseed crop sowing during his visit to Gulab Bagh and other adjacent areas of district Ganderbal.
While interacting with the farmers of the area, the Director said that Oilseed is one of the important crops of Kashmir Valley. He said that using quality seeds provided by the Department and doing its cultivation on modern scientific lines could fetch better returns to the farmers.
He asked the farmers to bring more land under the oilseed cultivation as it is an economically remunerative enterprise.
Iqbal said the Department is working to introduce new varieties of different crops including oilseeds which could be better performing in terms of production and productivity.
He asked the concerned field officers to offer latest technical interventions to the oilseed farmers so that the cultivation, harvesting and post harvesting management could be done on scientific lines.
The Director also had a session with a group of apiarists at Hadoora Gulabbagh who brought their issues including the marketing of their produce to his notice. He assured them that the Department would provide them the multi-dimensional marketing platform wherein they could get maximum returns for their produce.
The Director was accompanied by Joint Director Agriculture Extension Shahid Iqbal Sheikh, Deputy Director Planning Mohmmad Younis Chowdhary, Chief Agriculture Officer Ganderbal and other senior officers of the Department.
