Srinagar: Kashmir University Vice-Chancellor Prof Talat Ahmad on Wednesday released a book authored by former IAS officer Dr G R Ghani.
The book tilted “J&K Economy: Strength and Opportunities” offers insight into J&K’s current economic scenario as well as its future prospects vis-a-vis key economic areas.
Addressing academics and students on the occasion, Prof Talat said Dr Ghani’s book should serve as a great source of information for students of economics as well as young entrepreneurs to evaluate and assess areas where there is a potential for talented youth of J&K to excel.
“J&K youth are extremely talented. J&K has a great potential in areas like horticulture, handicrafts, fisheries and others. All we need is a collaborative effort to help tap the potential in these areas to facilitate our youth to excel,” Prof Talat said, congratulating the author for highlighting various critical issues and challenges facing the economy.
The book release function was organised by the varsity’s Directorate of Distance Education (DDE).
Director, DDE Prof Tariq Chisti welcomed the guests and participants and also presented a brief review of the book. He said the book offers some deep insights into areas which have huge implications on the economic growth and development of J&K.
Head Department of Economics Prof Imtiyaz-ul-Haq said Dr Ghani’s book provides answers and solutions to critical matters concerning J&K economy, including potential growth drivers for an inclusive growth.
In his brief introduction of the book, Dr Ghani said the book presents a very positive and optimistic picture of J&K economy based on survival rate of various economic activities.
He said J&K has potential to produce a lot of consumable products that it otherwise imports annually.
He said he has specifically focussed on areas where educated unemployed youth can be absorbed to make them self-reliant, especially the Small Medium and Minor Enterprises.
Dr Ghani thanked Vice-Chancellor Prof Talat Ahmad for releasing his book.
The function was attended by senior varsity academics including Prof Showkat A Shah, Prof Mushtaq Ahmad and Prof Irshad Zia.
