People whose family associates have died of covid and those who lost their jobs due to two successive pandemic lockdowns in last two years and also the families who lost their bread earners during the pandemic are all victims of the pandemic and as such deserve relief and rehabilitation in the post covid scenario. With the reducing intensity in the covid-19 pandemic the growing demand for relief and rehabilitation of covid victims deserves the attention and intervention of the Government not only in Jammu & Kashmir but also in other parts of the country. Since joblessness has brought covid victims under increasing economic stress, the concerns about the relief and rehabilitation of covid victims can’t be overlooked by any standards of understandability. Covid victims are under both psychological and as well as financial stress and as such deserve relief and rehabilitation . Though restoration of business operations is the priority in the post covid scenario but the greater priority is by all standards of understandabilities the relief and rehabilitation of the covid victims most of whom have also lost jobs in last two years of pandemic. As labour market because of the slowdown in business operations across the country is in distress in J&K like other parts of the country, the announcement of financial incentives for the labourers in a scenario of increasing joblessness is overdue now keeping in view the increasing joblessness and growing inflation not only in Jammu & Kashmir but also in other parts of the country. Unfortunately long wait for the relief and rehabilitation of covid victims does not end even after the steady revival of business operations in Jammu & Kashmir like other parts of the country and consequently the covid victims don’t see any scope for the announcement of any road map for their relief and rehabilitation by governments in states and the union territories of the country.
In a challenging economic scenario the possibility of covid victims becoming vulnerable to any change in the fast changing economic environment in the absence of a relief and rehabilitation package cannot be ruled out and as such the only way out is the announcement of a relief and rehabilitation package for the covid victims including the people whose family associates have died of covid-19 pandemic and also those who have lost their jobs due to pandemic in last two years in Jammu & Kashmir and other parts of the country.
Concerns are growing even over the future of an enabling environment for the restoration of livelihoods of those covid victims who have lost their bread earners and are themselves also jobless due to increasing financial stress triggered by high intensity waves of covid-19 pandemic in last two years.
