Srinagar: Police on Monday claimed to have arrested two drug peddlers in two separate instances and also said that it has recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued here on Monday police said that acting on specific information, a Police party of Police Station Hajin led by SHO PS Hajin at a surprise checkpoint established at Chrengpora Hajin arrested a wanted drug peddler identified as Mohd Rafiq Malla son of Gh Ahmad Malla resident of Chrengpora Hajin.
Stating that on checking, 6.6 kilograms of Charas was recovered from the possession of the above named accused police in it’s statement further said that the accused was the core drug peddler of the area who was operating since long and was evading his arrest.
Police in it’s statement also said that in yet another action, officers from Police Station Bandipora & PP Aloosa at a checkpoint established at Manginipora Crossing intercepted two persons riding a motorcycle bearing registration number JK05B-2912.
Stating that one among the above named accused identified as Abdul Lateef Rather son of Mohmad Munwar Rather resident of Gamroo Bandipora managed to escape from the spot but the pillion rider identified as Ishfaq Ahmad son of Ab Rashid Rather resident of Madar Bandipora was apprehended, police in it’s statement further said that 2832 banned capsules were recovered during search and efforts are on to effect the arrest of escaped drug peddler.
Police in it’s statement also said that motorcycle used in the commission of crime has been seized, adding therein that during preliminary investigation, it surfaced
In the concluding para of the above referred statement police said that the accused were supplying drugs to youth of the area in order to make them drug addicts, stating therein that cases under relevant sections of law were registered at respective Police Stations and further investigations have been taken up.
