Srinagar: Police on Friday said that it has foiled a smuggling bid by arresting a smuggler along with 450 Kgs of forest produce medicinal plants in Gandebal district and also carried out an extensive drive to destroy wild Bhung in Aloosa area of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
In a statement issued here on Friday police said that in Ganderbal, a Police party of Police Station Gund under the supervision of SDPO Kangan Yasir Qadri established a checkpoint on a credible input regarding smuggling of forest produce medicinal plants in Surfraw Gund area of Ganderbal and upon intercepting a vehicle (Maruti Van) bearing registration number JK02AN-3855 with one person on board identified as Asif Ahmad Lone son of Ghulam Mohammad resident of Surfraw Gund recovered 450 Kgs of Minor Forest Produce including Kuth (Costus), Podophyllum and Picrorhiza from the above named accused who arrested and shifted to Police Station where he remains in custody.
Stating that vehicle used in the commission of crime was also seized, police in it’s statement said that a case vide FIR number 42/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Gund and investigation has been also initiated.
Stating that in yet another similar incident in Bandipora, a Police team from Police Post Aloosa under the supervision of DySP Hqrs Bandipora Mohammad Idrees along with the officers from Revenue Department, destroyed wild bung spread over 30 Kanals of land in Trimukhan and Bamsi forest areas of Aloosa, police in the above referred statement police sought cooperation of the people in continuing such drives in nearby areas also.
