Addressing the gathering, Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir hailed the signing of MoU and asked the stakeholders, to implement it in letter and spirit. He said the dissemination of knowledge through Kashmiri and Urdu, should be mainly done through electronic media. He further said the Dogri would also be included in the list of languages in which the scientific knowledge would be disseminated.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Nakul Parashar said, the Vigyan Prasar (VP), has been meeting the nation’s S&T Communication Popularization & its Extension (SCoPE) agenda since its inception in 1989 and in 2019, the organization embarked upon a program to expand its SCoPE in Indian languages. “Kashmiri being an Indian language in the list of those added in the eighth amendment was thus added in the SCoPE-in-Indian Language program of VP. As recommended by the recently held National Urdu Science Congress, VP envisages to extend SCoPE in Kashmiri Language. Accordingly, a core committee for SCoPE-in-Kashmiri is proposed to be formed in consultation with the CUK,” he added.
Former Vice Chancellor, MANUU, Prof. Pervaiz Aslam, asked the signatories to carry forward the mission with zeal and zest. “The actual work begins henceforth and the experts in the field of science should use easy language to convey the scientific knowledge,” he added.
Speaking on the occasion, Registrar, KU, Prof. Nissar Ahmad, assured all possible support from the University of Kashmir, for translating the scientific knowledge into the Urdu and Kashmiri. Registrar, CUK, Prof. M Afzal Zargar while proposing the vote of thanks said the CUK has achieved a huge milestone after partnering with the Vigyan Prasar on the project. He said the translation of scientific knowledge into Kashmir and Urdu should be easily readable and comprehendible.
Dean School of Media Studies, Prof. Shahid Rasool, who conducted the programme proceedings, gave details about the MoU and said, the VP and CUK shall jointly work together to identify and enhance the scope of SCoPE-in-Kashmiri and Urdu pan India under the recommendations and guidance of the core committee of SMEs, shall form a joint operational committee for SCoPE-in-Kashmiri and Urdu, under the chairmanship of an eminent science communicator, VP and CUK shall jointly assess & review the progress of SCoPE through quarterly meeting of the core committee and set up SCoPE-in-Kashmiri Secretariat at CUK.
