Even on Child Cancer Awareness held at SKIMS Soura

Srinagar: In connection with Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and Childhood Cancer Survivorship Day, Department of Medical Oncology, SKIMS conducted a day long event at SKIMS auditorium. The focus was on the issues pertaining to survivorship in patients suffering from cancer. During the event various Pediatric cancer survivors shared their experiences of the journey of going through the cancer diagnosis and its management. They expressed their satisfaction with treatment and care provided by the Department of Paediatric Medical Oncology SKIMS. Parents of the cancer survivors also appreciated the constant support provided by the faculty of the concerned departments and its supportive services including Psychologists, Nutritionists, Social Workers, various NGOs and SKIMS administration.

Director SKIMS & EOSG, Dr. A.G Ahangar, appreciated the hardwork and perseverance of the Faculty Members, Residents and Paramedical Staff dealing with the Cancer Management. He complimented the Parents, Family members and others related to these little children who have survived different cancers having faced the onslought of these dreaded ailments so bravely and shown the path of resilience to others who are likely to suffer from such diseases. Dr. A.G Ahangar later distributed prizes among children with cancer.

HOD Medical Oncology, Prof. Gull Mohammad Bhat, HOD Radiation Oncology, Prof. Fir Afroz and Faculty members including Dr. Syed Nisar, Dr. Faisal Guru, Dr. Mir Mohmad Hussain and Dr. Saquib Zaffar Banday of the department and its Pediatric unit delivered lectures on various topics and emphasized to inculcate healthy lifestyle and various preventive measures among youth to reduce the cancer incidence in society. The Paediatric Cancer Survivors also participated in various recreational activities during the event which included Painting, Drawing, Singing and Musical Chairs competition.
