Pulwama: As part of ongoing Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Pulwama, Baseer Ul Haq Chowdhary Saturday inaugurated the two days Exhibition cum Awareness camp held within the premises of Government Boys Degree College, Pulwama.
On the occasion, the DC inspected stalls exhibited by different departments displaying samples, products, pamphlets and literature of various schemes.
Chowdhary along with other officers congratulated and applauded the women members for making the district proud through their recent achievement of getting listed among the top stories of ‘Atma Nirbhar Rural women’ India.
Speaking at the event, the DC said that the main objective of organizing the camp was to make artisans aware of various welfare programmes and schemes of the department.
He appealed to the artisan fraternity to come forward and get themselves registered with the department so that they can avail the benefits without any difficulty for their overall socio-economic development.
The purpose of this exhibition was to discourage usage of goods made of plastic and to promote products made of eco-friendly natural resources like clay, jute, bamboo etc. The attractive jute products, frames, souvenirs, wooden crafts, bamboo crafts, hand bags and terra cotta crafts were made available at the camp.
The DC said that this will help prevent degradation of the environment and will also be financially helpful for the local artisans.
The speakers on the occasion made the participants aware about the benefits of the Scheme besides, about the recent endeavors of the LG administration including capital infusion in the cooperative sector in Handicrafts and Handlooms.
AHTO said that thousands of trainees have been trained in the district in different crafts including carpet weaving, Sozni, embroidery, wood carving, chain stitch, staple and ganna craft.
Among others, the programme was attended by Principal GDC (Boys), Assistant Director Handicrafts and other concerned officers.
