Jammu: A Book Release- cum- Felicitation Function was organised by Nami Dogri Sanstha, Jammu, Saturday at Press Club, Jammu, to release a Hindi short stories book titled ‘Nahi Abhi Ant Nahin’, written by Romi Sharma, and confer upon her the title of “Sahitya Shri”. Shri Kavinder Gupta, Former Deputy Chief Minister, J&K was the Chief Guest on this occasion whereas S.K.Sharma IRS, Additional Commissioner Income Tax (Retd.) was the Special Guest, Shri K.Nirmal Kotwal, Advocate, J&K High Court was the Guest of Honour and Dr. Baljit Singh Raina was the Special Invitee of the function. Veteran Writer & Intellectual Dr.Agnishekhar Presided over the function.
Speaking on this occasion, Kavinder Gupta appreciated the efforts of Nami Dogri Sanstha to promote literary activities in J&K. He applauded the contribution of Romi Sharma for adding literary books to the literary circles of the region. Dr. Agnishekhar elaborated the features of the short stories included in the book and the literary aspects of the released collection. Other Guests also expressed their views on this occasion.
A paper on the book was read out by Vaneeta Sharma. It was informed that the book, published by Sarv Bhasha Trust, New Delhi, includes 11 Hindi Short Stories based on the realities of life and society. The stories may be termed as ‘Nangey Sach Ki Kahaniyan’, with the message of positivity and basic human values. Through the stories in this book, Romi Sharma has tried to convey the real picture of life.
It may be mentioned here that her first book of Hindi poetry, titled ‘Vajah Ho Tum’, was released at K L Saigal Hall, Jammu, during the year 2019.
Jammu born Romi Sharma, now living in Delhi, is a well known actress, producer, social activist, poet and a writer. She has to her credit more than 350 TV Serials as an actress. She has also produced a few serials for different channels. She has been a finalist of Mrs.India- 2021. She is the founder of Parivartan (Change we need), an NGO working for the cause of the downtrodden. Specially notable among her achievements, is her role to reunite across LoC, during the recent past, more than 45 families which got separated during partition of the country during 1947. For her social work, she has been given several awards, including National Women Excellence Award In Delhi, Sushma Swaraj Award in Delhi, Women Achievers Award, Super Woman 2020 Award, Jaipur, Nari Astitva Award in Haryana, Maharaja Hari Singh Samman 2020 in Jammu, Life Time Achievement Award in Jammu for her contribution in the field of art, and many others.The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Yash Paul Yash and Vote of thanks was extended by Advocate Amit Gupta.
