GDC Ukhral hosts webinar to mark Int’l Day for Preservation of Ozone Layer

Jammu: AMMUGovernment Degree College, Ukhralin, in collaboration with Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA) Jammu Chapter Thursday organized National Level webinar on the theme “Ozone Depletion : Disaster In Making” to mark the observance of International Day for Preservation of Ozone Layer”
Over 200 students and teachers from different institutions of UT of J&K and outside states attended the Webinar. All the participants, who attended the Webinar and filled the feedback forms, were given Participation Certificates.
The webinar was inaugurated by Prof Vijay Laxmi Saxena, General President Indian Science Congress Association.
In her inaugural address, she congratulated the patron of Webinar- Principal of the host College Dr. Ranvijay Singh; Convener ISCA, Jammu Chapter Dr. J.S. Tara and Coordinator of the Webinar Prof Rakesh Singh, Associate Prof. GDC Kathua and Life Member of ISCA for making a coordinated effort by conducting a Webinar on such an important issue. She highlighted the importance of Ozone Layer for mankind and stressed upon taking collective initiatives for its preservation.
The welcome address was delivered by Prof. J.S. Tara Convener, ISCA Jammu Chapter. He welcomed the Chief Guest Prof. Vijay Laxmi Saxena, Guest of Honor Prof. Ashok Kumar Saxena(ISCA Past President), Prof. M.K Jyoti (Executive Member ISCA) and Resource persons, Prof. K.K. Sharma and Dr. Shweta Yadav. He also highlighted the importance of the Ozone layer for survival on planet earth.
Prof. Kuldeep K. Sharma, former Dean Life Sciences, University of Jammu and a renowned educationist in his detailed powerpoint presentation explained in lucid and simple manner, the importance of Ozone Layer, the ill effects of depletion of Ozone Layer, the initiatives taken by international community including India for preservation of Ozone Layer and what little the common man can contribute to save the Ozone Layer.
Dr Shweta, Coordinator HARI Facility Central University of Jammu in her lecture talked at length on Ozone Recovery Status- Undiscovered and Unresolved issues. She deliberated in length about the efforts being made globally since the last three decades for the preservation of the ozone layer and the way ahead.
Principal of the College, Dr Ranvijay Singh extended gratitude to all the guests, participating delegates and students whose participation made the event successful. He said the College will conduct more Webinars on the issues of National and International Importance.
The proceedings of the webinar were conducted by Coordinator of Webinar Prof Rakesh Singh (Life Member ISCA), Associate Professor in Chemistry, GDC, Kathua.
