Sub-Inspector killed in Srinagar militant attack

Srinagar: A Probational Sub-Inspector of Jammu and Kashmir police department killed in a militant attack here in Khanyar area of Central Kashmir’s Srinagar district on Sunday afternoon.

An official told Kashmir News Service (KNS), that a Sub-Inspector identified as Arshid Ahmad of Kulmuna Kupwara sustained critical injuries during the attack and was shifted to Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) here where he succumbed to injuries later.

“We have lost a brave young officer. He was learning the nuances of policing. It’s a very tragic loss for us and his family. We express our deepest condolences. Perpetrators involved in this case have been identified and they will be brought to justice, ” said DGP Dilbag Singh during the of wreath laying ceremony of the deceased cop at DPL Srinagar.

DGP also said that the millitant modules involved in pistol shooting were wiped out but it seems new millitant module of pistol shooting.

The perpetrators have been identified, DGP said adding that they will be brought to Justice soon.

Meanwhile, Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Ministers Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti along with other political leaders have strongly condemned the killing of a police officer by militants.

“Strongly condemn the killing of SI Arshid Ahmad in a dastardly act of senseless violence. We express our sincere condolences to the family members of the fearless policeman killed in the line of duty. May his soul rest in peace & the family find strength to face the days ahead, ” Jammu kashmir national Conference said in a tweet.

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said on tweet said: “Sorry to hear about the death in the line of duty of Sub Inspector Arshid Mir of @JmuKmrPolice in a dastardly attack in the heart of Srinagar city. A young life with so much promise, another grieving family. May Allah grant Arshid place in Jannat, “.

People’s Conference Chairman Sajad Lone also condoled the killing saying: “terrorists have yet again made an addition to the army of orphans”.

Similarly, Mehbooba Mufti also condemned the killing and wrote on Twitter: “Saddened to hear about the death of J&K Police Sub Inspector Arshid Ahmed killed by militants at Khanyar today. May his soul rest in peace & condolences to his family, “.

PAGD spokesman Mohammed Yousuf Tarigami said “Strongly condemn the killing of Jammu & Kashmir Police Inspector who lost his life in the line of duty in Khanyar. My heartfelt condolences to his family and colleagues.”(KNS).
