Drug addiction earlier known as psychological dependence. It is a po-faced trouble became like an epidemic and a social repugnant which ruins one’s life completely and has become like a barony where an immense number of youths get entangled and more global in character.Every day we came to know about the increasing cases, of drug addiction from the past years. The cases of drugs are high in adolescents and worldwide communities are suffering of its impact. Many young college-going youngsters are apprehended by police entangled in case of drug consumption. It is estimated that it causes 1.8 million deaths in a year which represents 3.2 % of all deaths worldwide this is more than the number of deaths from all types of life-taking diseases. If we particularly talk about Kashmir as per a report by the United Nation Drug control program (UNDCP) around 70 thousand people got involved in drug addiction among them 31% are women, recent data coming from infirmaries ascertains that drug addicts were belonging to the age group 18-35 years including males and females. In one day 2 to 3 patients arrive at a single infirmary every day who are addicted to drugs with some signs. Drugs become a deterring stratum that is rolling up day by day and has no constraint over it. Drug dissemble not only individual but the society as well and also have bad effects on other youths. Drugs are considered a chronic brain disease, it not only counterfeit our brain but also agitate our whole body manner and may lead to many health issues like neurological, psychological and biological problems. Our youths are incognizant about the certitude that it knockdowns the whole family as well. Overuse of drugs can lead to death which is happening nowadays Heart attack is very common among them. Different varieties of drugs are being used such as cocaine, marijuana and heroin, poppy seeds etc. Among, these drugs heroin has more consumption rather than other drugs and gone up to very high as there is more demand for this specific drug. In the district, kupwara Jammu and Kashmir police busted a Pakistan Nacro-terror module in border area Tangdar containing heroin worth Rs 60-70 crore. Every day breaking news was flashing that drug dealers were got arrested with drugs and cash from different districts in Kashmir. Recently, in Kashmir police had arrested two drug peddlers containing 7.5kg of straw-like substance and cash. Some drug peddlers put these drugs underground by scooping the earth. Isn’t it freakish.? Who is reliable for this? It is because of the illegal trading of drugs and easy availability which captivated our youngsters towards this menace. Drugs are so much extravagant and are not easily affordable for all? Here the question arises how youths get such a king-size amount of bucks? Either they become cocker in theft or burglary or do other stuff to quench their thirst, they have frequent urge to get injected or take medicines orally as they, cannot live their lives peacefully without drugs. These kinds of drugs are very precarious for health; may become habitual and lifetime dependence, increases their threshold and could not resist if left untreated. Drugs are chronic, spreading fortuitously. These drugs can produce the feeling of delight and felicity for some time but with due course of time, it became less pleasurable and became a victim of tragedies such as committing suicide, self-harm etc. There are multiple causes of Drug addiction such as individual biology,Family pressure such as targetting the children regarding studies by not clearing competitive exams, blaming and comparing them with other children’s, relationship problems, unemployment, social environment,Copying from family members who are addicted to drugs including cigarette. These causes made youth more vulnerable to this evil and become victims of drugs. There are many symptoms of drug addicts such as losing interest in activities, changes in appearance, depression, anxiety, nausea, vomiting, insomnia, chills, not able to concentrate fully, sitting alone all time, not interested in making friends, rude behaviour with parents, “ Recovery is hard. Regret is harder. – Brittany Burgunder”
Way Forward- Remedies how to tackle this situation. Drug addiction can’t be cured but are treated in several ways. Firstly and foremost remedy is Home, it is the place where they can talk with parents by showing a favourable attitude and affection towards them. Parents should keep eye on their children’s as it is their responsibility to ask them where they go and what are they doing where the cash came from and where they are spending. Parents should involve in a child’s life and co-operate, comprehend them fully what they want. Parents should not denounce their children’s poor performance in the academic field as every child has /her probable how much they understand and cope up. instead, of chastising express some love so, they will be able to talk freely without any solicitude and should treat their children’s as friends, study them as they require adequate care, guidance and warm-heartedness. secondly, programmes should be organised to create awareness among youths how to tackle these situations and help them to establish trust. Proper counselling and medication can also help youths to get rid of this perilous thing. Teach the harmful impact of drugs in colleges and schools by engaging more and more youths in group sessions, conferences ,life skill trainings and other activities. More employment opportunities should be increased not only in the government sector but also in the private sector also. serious action should be taken instantly against those chemists stores. Cases should be catalogued against those drug peddlers and there should be a proper inquiry regarding this heinous scandal. Anti-drug policies should be implemented Government should put more and more efforts to curb this illegal trade as soon as possible to eradicate the use of Drugs. plants should be razed by warning people to stop cultivating these plants such as poppy that is grown in different districts of Kashmir. As per my stance to live a better life people must avoid giving rise to the use of drugs.Entering in this cosmos is very easy but leaving this is very difficult .We should halt this life snatching string and recoup jurisdiction over life so, that our future generations could be saved and progress without this holocaust.
