Covid vaccination being the only way to contain covid -19 spread has been undoubtedly a top priority of the J&K Government like many other state and UT governments of the country but target of 100% double dose vaccination is yet to completed in Jammu & Kashmir. With Lt Governor Manoj Sinha taking weekly review meetings with Deputy Commissioners and District Police Chiefs for reviewing the progress of the vaccination process, the target of 100% vaccination is likely to be completed in next few months more so now when the central government has asked and all states and union territories to speed up the administration of the second shots. As the fluctuation in daily figures of covid cases ranges between 100-180 in Jammu & Kashmir, the strategy to reduce the daily figures of covid cases well below three digit mark (100) by intensifying the vaccination process could stop the possible arrival of the third wave of covid pandemic in Jammu & Kashmir. Since health experts have observed that two shots provide maximum protection against the deadly virus, the 100% completion of the second dose of covid vaccine is the only way out. By all standards of understandabilities the strategy to reduce the severity of the covid demands a strategy for completion of 100% doube dose covid vaccine in short time as this is the only way to reduce the intensity of the virus spread to zero across Jammu & Kashmir. So the strategy has not to be only reduced to just completion of the vaccination target set for this year but people have to look beyond the vaccination targets set for this year with full focus on covid containment measures.
As government has warned people time and again that any laxity in following the covid appropriate behaviour till the completion of 100% double dose vaccination could prove dangerous for the people currently gripped with the fear of the arrival of third wave of covid pandemic, the people of Jammu & Kashmir have to respond well to the calls for both the double dose covid vaccination and as well as use of masks with social distancing at crowded places particularly passenger buses, markets, offices and religious gatherings.
Till the 100% completion of the double covid vaccination the people themselves have to strictly adhere to covid appropriate behaviour including use of masks with social distancing at crowded places. Such measures if followed vehemently by people could also give a fillip to the process of opening up socio-economic activities in Jammu & Kashmir like several states and union territories of the country.
