Srinagar: Police in Budgam on Tuesday said that it have recovered an ancient sculpture from Khan Sahab area and accordingly, a team of officers from Department of Archives, Archaeology & Museums, J&K Government were called for examination of the recovered sculpture at District Police Office Budgam.
According to a police statement issued on Tuesday during examination it was revealed that the recovered sculpture of Godddess Durga dates back roughly to 7th-8th AD (about 1200 years old). The sculpture is 12″x08″ carved in a black stone with Goddess Durga seated on lion throne along 04 attendants.
The said recovered sculpture was handed over formally to Mushtaq Ahmad Beigh Deputy Director Department of Archives, Archaeology &Museums and his team by Shri Tahir Saleem Khan, SSP Budgam in presence of Police/Civil officers after fulfilling all the legal formalities. Its pertinent to mention that, the said sculpture was retrieved on 13th August from River Jehlum at Pandthrethan area of Srinagar by the labourers while extracting sand while following social distancing norms and other protocols.
The main focus of the interaction was about the security related protocols regarding the visit in their respective DDC constituencies. While interacting with the members, SSP Budgam said that Budgam Police is committed to provide safety and security of all the members so that they will be able to discharge their duties without any fear on ground. Several issues related to day-to-day policing were also discussed with all members.
While appreciating the efforts of Budgam Police, DDC and BDC members stated that the role of Police is imperative as Budgam Police has always been extending its support to all the members. On the conclusion, SSP Budgam assured all the DDCs and BDCs Members that all the future safety and security related issues will be dealt seriously and assured the improvement in overall security scenario on the basis of future feedbacks from the members. Senior officers of Budgam Police Including ASP Budgam, Dy SP Hqrs, Dy SP DAR were also present on the occasion.
