KU’s CCPC organises 2-day career counselling workshop

Srinagar: A two-day career counselling workshop concluded at the University of Kashmir on Saturday.
Registrar Dr Nisar A Mir was the chief guest at the valedictory session of the workshop, organised by the varsity’s prestigious Centre for Career Planning and Counselling (CCPC) in collaboration with the Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL), Bangaluru, for counsellors and placement officers of various departments and campuses of the university.
In his presidential address, Dr Mir, who distributed certificates among the participants, appreciated the role of the CCPC in organising such workshops and reaching out to the students.
He called for a multi-pronged response by the Centre towards skill enhancement, career guidance and coaching of the students besides placement of the pass-outs in multinational corporate houses.
The workshop was aimed at imparting essential skills to career counselors required for transferring knowledge and guiding young learners in a way that is engaging, empathetic, stimulating and learner-friendly.
The workshop titled ‘Shaping the Way’ was attended by a total of 25 participants in offline mode following all COVID-19 protocols.
Kapil Mahajan from TASL conducted the technical sessions, stressing upon the need for building an empathetic and emotional connect with the students. He also conducted several activity sessions that kept the participants engaged throughout and deliberated upon important issues like cultural orientation, conversation on career dilemmas, guiding talent on inherited strengths, addressing setbacks and failures.
Another trainer, Archee Makhija, made presentations on the role of the career counselors and imparted training about the fundamental techniques of career counselling.
“A career counselor has to be a trained professional, a listener, an advisor and a psychologist as well,” Makhija said.
Highlighting the strides made by the Centre vis-à-vis reaching out to the students, Prof Geer Mohammad Ishaq, Director, CCPC, in his welcome address said that this workshop was designed while keeping a focus on the role and responsibilities of career counselors.
The workshop educated the counsellors and placement officers about fundamental facilitation tools and structured processes that can be applied to counselling sessions under varied situations, he said. It included several activities and brainstorming sessions to find new ways of working with students in a meaningful and productive manner.
Dr Bilal Ahmad Pandow and Hina Kazmi, Consultants at the CCPC, facilitated the two-day workshop.
