DC B’pora tours Shadipora, Odina villages in Sumbal; holds Public Interaction

DC Owais calls for strengthening Jhelum embankments, inspects flood protection works

Bandipora: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Bandipora, Dr Owais Ahmad on Monday conducted an extensive tour of Shadipora and Odina Villages of Sumbal Sub-division in Bandipora district and held public interactions to listen to public issues, grievances and demands.
Dr Owais inspected various developmental works and also inspected ongoing flood protection works and strengthening of embankments along river Jhelum and other streams at Shadipora.
On the occasion officers informed the DC about flood protection works and stated that the banks of river Jhelum are regularly monitored and weak embankments are plugged immediately. They said work is in progress on a war footing basis to strengthen certain identified areas along river Jhelum and other streams in Shadipora and adjoining areas.
He also inspected the ongoing construction of transit accommodation at Odina area and asked the executing agency to expedite the work so that phase one of the project is completed well before time. Later he also interacted with the people of these villages who apprised him about various issues of public interest and sought early redressal of their grievances.
Dr Owais said the aim of the tour was to to take appraisal of local issues from the general public for accurate and on ground assessment and redressal of the same thereby providing governance to the public at their door steps.
Dozens of delegations including members of Panchayat Raj Institutions besides scores of individuals called on the DC during the tour and apprised him about the problems faced by them in day to day life including road connectivity, construction of paths and culverts, availability of safe drinking water, augmentation of power infrastructure, upgradation of schools etc.
The DC after giving patient hearing to the delegations, passed on-spot directions for redressal of their grievances. He passed on spot directions for the resolutions of various issues while several committees and joint teams were constituted to resolve issues raised by the people during the program.
While interacting with the people, Dr Owais appealed to people to adopt Covid Appropriate Behavior (CAB) at all public places including all religious and social gatherings. He instructed Health and revenue Officers to strictly monitor covid guidelines besides testing at all gatherings.
The DC during the visit was accompanied by SDM Sumbal Dr Bashir Ahmad, Superintending Engineer Irrigation and Flood Control (I&FC), Executive Engineers of I&FC, R&B and PDD, Tehsildar Sumbal, AEE Jal Shakti and other senior officers of the district.
