Srinagar: There will be no internet shutdown or restrictions on the 75th Independence Day (ID) in the Kashmir valley on Sunday.

However, counter drone technology has been deployed at all sensitive places, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir range, K Vijay Kumar said.

Extending greetings, Mr Kumar appealed to general public to participate in the I-Day functions in huge numbers in the Kashmir valley.

The IGP said this time there is neither internet shutdown nor any restriction on the movement of general public on I-Day in the valley.

This is probably for the first time government has not imposed any ban on internet. In the past internet services of all Cellular companies were being disconnected on I-Day and Republic Day (RD) and other important occasions, particularly during encounters between militants and security forces in the valley as a precautionary measure to prevent rumours.

Mr Kumar said this time there will be no restrictions on the movement of general public in any part of the valley, including Srinagar. He appealed to people to participate in large numbers in the I-Day functions.

Assuring full security, the IGP said that anti-drone technology has been deployed at all sensitive places to thwart any attempt by militants to cause any disturbances during the I-Day celebrations in the valley, where main function will be held at S K International Cricket stadium, Srinagar. Lt Governor Manoj Sinha will unfurl the national flag and took salute at the march past while similar celebrations will be held at all district and tehsil headquarters.

Meanwhile, a police spokesman had already denied reports that former chairman of hardline Hurriyat Conference (HC) Syed Ali Shah Geelani has issued any strike call on August 15.

Reacting to social media reports, he had said that a tweet issued on behalf of Geelani was fake. He said as per family sources of Geelani, the tweet on social media is fake and issue by someone from Pakistan.

He said police is taking action against all those who are circulating fake tweet to instigate violence. A case FIR under relevant sections of ULA(P) stands registered in police station Badgam in central Kashmir.
